koella -> buleria without golpes. How ? (Nov. 30 2008 13:35:57)

A classical player asked me to give some basic buleria without golpes.
Because he has no tap plate.

I said that is not possible.
Is it ?

The golpe comes somehow automatically... I would frag any guitar without golpeador while testing...
But its possible. With good palmas or whatever... its even more easy.

Could you give an example ?

Substitute golpe for a bass note.

I would say not possible. You could have a falseta with no golpes, but not any true bulerias compas (meaning rhythmic strumming.).

Rather than relearning the technique, isnt it easier to spend the $6 or so on a piece of golpe plate?

I guess he has to choose an other palo.
Thanks for the input.

A plate is no option I guess.[:D]

we had a spanish group with a hungarian dancer here last year and they had a guitarist who played for an hour without making one single golpe...his playing was quite good, he even sounded flamenco, but i really really missed the golpes and was disgusted at the guitarist for not making even a single tiny little one...it was a big disappointment...
this would be funny for an outsider :)

Yes, that's my favourite buleria too.

when i started to learn flamenco guitar, it was very difficult for me to play the Golpes together with the Notes.....now i saw this thread and tried to play a bulerias without Golpe and realized that it is quite impossible....it comes automatically and you cant hold the finger back ...... was quite interesting

BTW......koella, he can play golpe only with flesh (without nail)...if he doenst have very long nails...

Well Arash, of course it's possible, but it sounds more like some mexican mariachi music.
All the earthyness is gone when you leave the golpes out.

Like I said there are TONS of falsetas available for any palo that don't use golpes. But no rhythmic strumming parts, that is the main issue I think.

Tell the classical player that John Williams has a very small tap plate on his Smallman guitar. It is a good idea to protect any classical guitar top, IMO.

Ah you beat me to it. Both the Smallman and fleta had small golpe plates!
