Battery powered amps. I know what you mean about the generator. I played in a latin rock band and we'd play on a float during an annual parade. The generator was super annoying but when we were playing the band was loud enough to drown it out. I also did a gig on a beach at a paella cooking class every year for a few years. I thought it would be terrible trying to play without an amp on a beach. It was a duo gig and the violinist brought a rig powered by a car battery. He even had reverb. It sounded great and the paella and sangria was really good too. The guy who ran the class was a physicist from Spain. He still owns a great Spanish restaurant near San Francisco. He said his father was disappointed when he decided to go into the restaurant business until he told his father that he was going to eat like a king every day. His food is really good.
