extra high tension?? How do you manage to survive.
I somehow never figured why people like carbon.

are Luthier strings still the same quality that I remember from a few years ago?

I got a set of these recently: https://www.stringsbymail.com/luthier-cs60-xht-guitar-strings-with-super-carbon-101-trebles-full-set-12605.html

I like them a lot for my Jason McGuire blanca.

Stu -> RE: Luthier strings still going??? (Jul. 8 2026 7:21:38)

I got gifted a free set of knobloch super high tension carbons by siddx!

I loved them and just bought a new set! they last really well too!

I don't know if I can ever turn back... they're very nice strings!

I take that back - WTF - been only playing these for 25 days, and the D string is already unwound at the second fret, so now I have to change strings again. Sucky! [:@]

Ramzi is a BEAST!!!! [:D] Cut through those strings in less than a month.[:D]

[:D] Hilarious - but for real, I barely play, so I was really surprised that happened. I haven't had a string lose its windings in a very long time (back in the day when I would practice eight hours a day as a teenager). Maybe it's Jason's guitar inspiring me. I love that blanca!!!

Oh, but also - I ordered two sets from SBM, and the second one (which I tried to use yesterday after the D wore out) ended up shipping with a missing low E string even though the package was fully sealed, so WTF quality control is that, Luthier!?

I'm going back to D'Addario.

All this because the production is in Spain and not in the US. Not the same company anymore. I wonder if it is right to keep the same name when the company is completely different. Well it is right for their profit but I wonder if it is fair for the consumers. The same with Hiscox that are now made in Poland.

You could say that about anything these days.
Like companies like Bosch or Siemens or whatever. They all now produce in China or other countries and are basically the same factory and just using their brands which are known to Germans from decades ago, but quality is crap these days.
Or the company names are completely sold to others.

By the way, Daddario quality is changing too. Had some bad exerience.
Currently I use Knobloch. Never had an issue.

[:(] What happened?

intonation issues with trebles and the basses become dull immediately. Basses were never long lasting with Daddario but still ok, But the recent EJ45 were like almost dead after 2 days. I don't know if I was unlucky with a batch or what.
The basses from Knobloch hold a LONG time and no other issues with them as well.
I also had really good experience with the turkish brand Pitbull.
Name is kinda weird but the strings are good.

Luciano likes those...

orsonw -> RE: Luthier strings still going??? (Aug. 5 2026 15:17:57)

If Luthier windings on the D didn't break so fast they would be my preferred string. I used to retie the D string each week shifted along so that a fresh section met the fret.

Now I use D'addario and Knobloch. D'addario don't break. Knobloch last a long time before I need to move the string along.

AndresK -> RE: Luthier strings still going??? (Aug. 8 2026 11:20:01)

He did promote them at some point, but all his recent videos mention pepe Romero strings, so La Bella

The second Luthier set - the windings are gone again - D string, three different places. Avoid these strings...

Ricardo -> RE: Luthier strings still going??? (Aug. 21 2026 15:55:51)

to be clear...Luthier Extra high tension are the ones failing on the D? I had a set last year I believe, or maybe earlier this year and the Luthiers were my "back up" set, and the A string had a warble or "sick" tone on certain frets so I had to get some La Bellas quick (since I had run out). I was using normal tension. I still have a set or two unused I need to try before I condemn the brand.

constructordeguitarras -> RE: Luthier strings still going??? (Aug. 21 2026 23:38:44)

I always use Luthier brand strings. I get them from stringsbymail.com cheaper by the dozen.

These ones: https://www.stringsbymail.com/luthier-cs60-xht-guitar-strings-with-super-carbon-101-trebles-full-set-12605.html

And yes, the warbling also was happening on the D on frets 11 to 13 if I'm not mistaken.

I have used Luthier 30s for more than 15 years and this has always been my experience. Both the original and current manufacturer.
These days I only have them on one guitar that I play less often. I still have to move the D string along when I see it beginning to wear.
