It's done. Sorry for doing this so late and thanks Rui for extending the deadline because of me.

Tranquilo, ainda tens tempo. Dúvido que ele va votar logo a seguir à meia noite...

Eu é que já não aguento mais, estou todo roto e tenho que ir dormir. Ouvi cada uma 4 ou 5 vezes, gostava de ouvir melhor mas acho que foi suficiente.

Sr. Martins -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jul. 13 2015 23:11:17)

Allright..

Everyone has voted, the flaws of the challenge have been discussed and now all we need to do is wait for John and then do a little math/let the world who we are.

Leñador -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jul. 14 2015 0:48:52)

Sweet! Let's wrap this thing up!

Here's the updated spreadsheet, we argued a lot but everyone's judging seems to follow a fairly decent pattern.

Leñador -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jul. 14 2015 13:08:25)

Alright y'all! John has pounded his gavel and all judgements have passed. De-mask yourself, erase your score and drown your sorrows!

The results are beside the point of the arguing.

You're the only person who thinks the voting system was fine and would do it again the same way... just think about it man, if everyone else thinks it's flawed, just play closer attention to what they're saying and forget the results.

Leñador -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jul. 14 2015 13:34:30)

I'm fine with everyone thinking I'm wrong, I know I'm right, and that's enough for me. [:D]

Flaws should be dealt with before they bite us in the ass. Seriously, I can't believe you don't see anything wrong with it even after all the comments from users.

Try this: Imagine we do a similar cloning challenge with the same voting strategy... can you imagine what would happen? The results mean nothing, even if they are totally fair for this challenge... it's the voting system that is flawed and it would surely backfire in future challenges and then you would end up being the only participant [:D]

xirdneH_imiJ -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jul. 14 2015 13:50:59)

so he surely wins :)

Can't it be any challenge I want then???? I'm liking this system...... [:D]

Don't be that guy, not even joking.

I see the challenge thing/voting as a responsibility towards others and their effort.

Leñador -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jul. 14 2015 16:06:51)

I'm just playing. No matter what I'll never see it the way you guys do and I don't feel strongly enough to argue it though.

Had you played 10bpm faster and maybe it would be a slop fest... had other players done it at less 10bpm and you wouldn't even touch their toes... got it?

Different speeds (I think there were 5 levels, from 87 to 148) represent different difficulty levels. With the voting as it went, we compared apples to oranges.

Some people took chances and challenged themselves to the point where a few mistakes would come through because they felt that was the point. Others played it as safe as possible because... they felt that was the point. Still, we're comparing different things.

It's like having a bulerias challenge where some play alegrias and others play solea.

Leñador -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jul. 14 2015 17:35:50)

I'm sorry man, I just plain don't agree with that logic. Unfortunately you'll have to go on with your life knowing someone doesn't agree with you about something. Let's agree to disagree and move on.
Time to wrap this thing up.

It's not about me, it's about getting you to understand why everyone else thought this didn't work... except you.

But that's ok, I see it.

JohnWalshGuitar -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jul. 14 2015 18:54:21)

Lads its all good. Don't be getting upset about the ins and outs. Ye did a great job organising it. I hope ye had fun learning and playing the falseta. That's the most important thing.
We can learn from any problems how to run the next one but no point fighting about what is already done.
Peace!!

No one said we should change what was already done. If we don't recognize the problems, there's a huge chance that they will be repeated just because you don't see anything wrong with it.

You can't learn from mistakes if you see no mistakes, right?

Leñador -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jul. 14 2015 19:46:46)

Don't worry about it Rui, I'm not going to be organizing challenges and even if I did I'm easy going with it so even though I don't see a problem with the current system, I'd be happy to go along with a new one. It's just not that big a deal to me.

I didn't say not to recognize the problems, just not to be getting upset about it. Keep the vibes good that's all I'm saying
I am the master of noticing my own mistakes don't worry [:D]

El Kiko -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jul. 14 2015 20:43:18)

I have to confess that the second half of my "rendition" was read from the tab without any practicing, that's why it sounds weird... I could read the numbers but not quite the rhythm. Then I figured I had to slow down the metronome to play that seconf half at the same speed as the first, that's when the first half also became alien to me.

I wasn't going to upload because of my muscular related issues, I haven't played any guitar in almost two months but then I saw that there were only 6 valid files at the weblink... I had to do it no matter how bad it turned out.

So.. my neck nerves and muscles were too sensitive from all that playing on wednesday morning... then on thursday I wake up to a phone call, I move my arm to reach for the phone and my neck snaps with an immediate awful pain... oh well...

This was the challenge where I practiced less and had more pain... as they say, "too much pain, no gain". [:'(]

Anyways, the conclusion is... I enjoyed and Iam happy with the way it turned out.

Don't forget to talk to Don Dawson, he is expecting the winners' demands. [;)]

Sr. Martins -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jul. 29 2015 14:50:55)

The prizes are on their way.

Don't forget to upload a picture of you naked with the prizes covering your body.

Leñador -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jul. 29 2015 16:58:38)

I've only got one set of strings and a headstock tuner, that's not gunna cover anything! Lol
Plus the FCC has a ban on pictures of me without a shirt. [:D]

Gotta be creative man. The set of strings is enough for the face to guarantee your anonymity and the tuner is plenty to cover your genitals.

It's similar but it's not a dumbass. The amount of hair is nearly the same but it's much better cared, I always put hair conditioner and comb it after showering. It tends to curl and I don't like that.

Dudnote -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Aug. 1 2015 4:49:59)

Nice ass, got dreads just like mine.

As for all the debate on scoring n speed etc it actually, it really turned out pretty good just the way it was. Kiko and Rui's video uploads really nailled the coffin shut on the speed debate - sorry guys - I'm back to practicing this baby at 85.

Congrats to those of you winning strings, well meritted!

And for the next challenge, how about some Asian seafood as a prize? Chinese fish anyone?
