In my opinion, comparing the bi lateral symmetry of wood grain on the back of a guitar to a female sexual organs is beyond a joke. It's called SEXISM and you may not be sensitive t it, but others are. It IS WRONG! And I don't want my guitars associated with it. I don't l want my female friends or partner to have to see it if they are looking to see if I posted a tutorial about rosette making or I am showing a new guitar.

Many people think the artist Georgia O'keefe intentionally painted flowers as vaginas such as the one below, and I don't think she was sexist. In fact she has been widely celebrated by women in particular for ... celebrating vaginas. But she has claimed they were just flowers. However, her self-portrait below suggests that she may have been lying. Images are resized automatically to a maximum width of 800px

That brings up an interesting point Ethan. How should we comment what you just posted? "It looks like that thing that women have, I bet she did it on purpose." "If you look closely, you can even see the major and the minor chords with the key center in the middle." THAT is childish talking! I see a vulva there.. if it looked like a bird I would say "looks like a bird to me" but that is a vulva. I wonder how some of you reacted in school when the subject was human reproduction.

Hey Andy, that is a sweet score! I owned 2 awesome steel string guitars made with African Padauk, both Jumbo size, one was a baritone. They were made by Marc Beneteau from Ontario, Canada. He absolutely loves Padauk, and we're thinking about using it for my new guitar that is due in February. I'm not sure how you can definitively tell the difference between Andaman and African, but I have always heard the former is considered quite rare. I played a few of Marc Beneteau's, Bubinga and Ziricote OM's recently. I found Marc's Ziricote OM fit my playing style really well and I was sad to leave the guitar behind in the shop. Superb luthier, you have a great treat awaiting you Ryan (I'm sure you already know having owned a few of his instruments already!)

This guitar is made of all solid unfinished padauk (Washburn N4) except for the fingerboard, ebony. I have and inferior model of this guitar because I love the shape and the confort but just by lookin at the pictures, padauk looks like a wood that asks to bond with the players body and hands. Anyone has ever made a flamenco guitar with an unfinished padauk neck? Images are resized automatically to a maximum width of 800px

I'm thinking of getting a Warmoth padauk neck at sometime. Padauk is supposed to be a great choice for necks for acoustic guitars, as it's supposed to be really stable for necks anyway and provides more sustain than the standard choice of mahogany. I can't imagine it'd be a great choice for a flamenco guitar as it's quite a lot heavier than Spanish Cedar; it'd possibly create an instrument that is far too neck heavy if used with Cypress back and sides.

Thanks for the info Ryan and Sr. Martins and those are some nice looking guitars. I'm coming to understand now how rare this wood is since the tsunami. It will be interesting when I build with it to see if I notice much difference from African. Sorry to disappoint some of you but there's nothing but straight grain on these sets. I got the wood sawn up today, here's part II
