Mark2 -> RE: ** Changes to the Forum [PLEASE VOTE] (Jun. 4 2014 17:15:07)

I didn't vote because like Budda, I didn't see my views represented. I rarely read the off topic section, but do enjoy it when I do because it gives insight into the lives of the members. I especially enjoy reading about the older folks like Richard and Bill whose posts about their interesting careers and personal lives enrich the forum IMO. It gives perspective to their posts on flamenco matters. Also, the idea that some are "know it alls" trying to one up others......isn't the purpose of the foro to exchange information and views about flamenco? It's up to the individual to weigh the value of the opinion presented, and background information often contained in off topic posts assists in that. IMO, one of the problems with the flamenco -teacher forum was that newbies would post absurd assumptions, which would sometimes go un challenged, perhaps because a person with more knowledge didn't want to be perceived as a know it all. Some things related to flamenco are not matters of opinion, they are simply facts. When I started participating in flamenco forums I was deep into studying dance accompaniment and cante and all matters flamenco. The access I had to the knowledge from folks with the experience to know certain things was what made the time spent online worthwhile. Finally, I must have missed the part where we drove away all the women. The forum is dominated by guitarists and guitar makers. There are few women involved in those activities. I'm sure a few dancers have shown up, and finding no threads on dance, simply stopped visiting.
