A local guitar shop here in town has 3 price types:
1. Fixed price for certain standard stuff.
2. Hourly rate for other repairs.
3. A double hourly rate for: "Could you just................."

Bill, I have two ex-wives who were born in The Philippines, one who grew up there and one who grew up in Chicago--and my son who is almost 18 and lives with me is of the one who grew up there--so your story is particularly interesting to me. When his mother lived with us (almost until he was 3) we were sending all the extra money I earned to her parents in The Philippines.

So you see, Stephen, I'm the struggling single mother.

This sounds like a Sienfeld episode, the one where Kenny Bania gives Jerry the sport coat and then expects dinner

Sig, you are exactly right! I saw that episode but I had forgotten about it. (Haven't watched TV for a few years.) Yes, that is exactly the way it has been with this guy. Thanks for pointing that out.

Yeah, and because a lot of people are interested in crafts, they fail to appreciate that actual craftspersons are depending on their craft to earn a living, which usually requires getting money. When I was a cabinetmaker and I told people that I met about it, I very often heard things like, "my wife and I refinished a desk." Often doctors and lawyers would ask me how to do things, and I never saw them giving information for free.

uy, I´ve known a few of those. And if you really start taking them serious and explain things and go deep etc, they have to call someone on the cell phone. They always consider themselves to be VERY important.

Just let him fly. If you do, he might come back and apologize. If not.... next page.

My favorite episode is The Soup Nazi:

"No guitar for you!"
