Ok if someone actually wrote "Go take a Brouwer" -

Your knowledge and feel of music is on the level of a Beavis and Butthead cartoon on MTV.

This has to be trolling.

Sr. Martins -> RE: Paco's masterpiece (Apr. 11 2014 22:45:20)

What?

Agreed--again. This thread has to be one of the low points in the history of this forum.

This thread blows. That's the best comment on here.

I had not reckoned that the foro regulars would consider classical players in such low regard and any comparison with the demigod Paco sacrilegious. One finds it difficult to deal with such emotional responses.

reading through the thread from the top again, the post that really sent the whole thread over the edge seems to be this one;

quote:

Yipes! Anal retentiveness in full bloom.

the real deal, Aeolus, is that you can't handle the quite reasonable responses (based on flamenco aesthetics and flamenco knowledge and experience) to the bizarre stuff you post on here, and you then insult people and all hell breaks loose.

aeolus -> RE: Paco's masterpiece (Apr. 14 2014 22:36:41)

Reasonable! You have to be kidding! I post a vid of a classical player playing a very fine composition by Paco as an example how his art has attracted attention outside the small world of flamenco, and what follows: scatological references. Sorry but the foro is a cesspool.

wrong.

just go back and read the thread from the top.

the first reference to poo or bottoms was your "anal retentive" comment and the first reply to it.

EDIT: I just have to add also that you didn't start the thread explaining that you posted the vid as

"an example how his [Paco's] art has attracted attention outside the small world of flamenco",

you started off with

"Unfortunately I have not found a good link to a YouTube presentation of Trantas by him."

The initial replies were offering other video's.....

estebanana -> RE: Paco's masterpiece (Apr. 15 2014 0:45:42)

You guys lost me when whom ever it was started dissing Leo Brouwer.

I mean you may not like him or his music, but he has a been a substantial pedagogical influence on modern guitar playing.

I doubt Paco with all his abilities would say stuff like that about other professionals. It's ok not to like something, but to take a concert artist and important composers reputation in disrespect via potty talk is super juvenile.

If you don't like Leo Browuer then have an adult conversation about his work and state your reasons for not liking it in intelligent language. Cite examples of things you don't like and explain why. Showcase your vast talents for critical thinking.

See that is much harder than just falling back on "Oh he sucks. " You are now obligated to say why he sucks or not be taken seriously.

Aeolus introduced Brouwer, and he used it to diss Paco[&:]

with predictable results....

really the subsequent dissing of Brouwer was a whole lot of people getting p1ssed off with Aeolus dissing Paco and flamenco.... again....

I have no problem with Brouwer, after all he scored the strings for Vicente's "Poeta"[;)]

What is the standard deviation for the Aholus learning curve?

Aretium -> RE: Paco's masterpiece (Apr. 15 2014 12:26:31)

So this is another thread on Classical vs Flamenco... or Paco
I find it funny how many are getting flustered with this thread. For me this is the "bar" conversation, Ali vs Lee, Bach vs Mozart, Football vs Soccer etc.

Its just a fun conversation and usually someone gets too personal and says "he sucks" but mainly because they can't think of a better argument.

There are no cheap shots in this kind of conversation and everyone should lighten up,
I love provoking people as much as aelous does because most of the time people produce a genuine emotional response ( "HE SUCKS").

ps. Paco is the finest musician of the 20th century so everyone "sucks" compared to him, Ill play my whole life just to be considered atrocious or maybe even diabolical compared to him (that reminds me of the Monty Python scene in life of brian "What i wouldn't give to be spat on by a roman")

Of course not. I've talked to some of the greatest players of flamenco and classical, (including Paco and Leo) and they respect each other.

Así es.

Anyway, you can get a good idea of how Paco felt about Leo from this photo of the two of them:

Here are a couple more fotos of Paco in Cuba with Brouwer, and although nothing can beat that first one posted above, you might like to see the others before this thread goes peacefully off into the ether.

In the first of these, Paco is clearly happy to be back in Cuba, while Brouwer is saying "This guy is God".

In the second, they are having a laugh with the great singer-songwriter Silvio Rodriguez.

After having some great fun going through this old thread again, here is Leo Brouwer's admiration for Paco in the end of this commercial.( 1:16 - 1:32)

The fire of flamenco has surely lived in this forum and matured so nicely through the years. Grateful to be here.

Good day to all!

devilhand -> RE: Paco's masterpiece (May 16 2023 10:58:02)

Gotta love what he said.

"It's not the music that is simple. I always have a complicated harmony, or meaning, or lines, or broken figures in the music which is not simple.

What is simple is the way to play. Simplicity for the fingers. Complexity for the ear."

As I said somewhere above, Brouwer is really fun to play…but to listen to???

To avoid getting triggered in this old topic I only read posts by Mark Indigo. [:D]

Taranta’s a nice city, but expensive. There’s a reason so many musicians celebrate the place in their repertoire.

At any rate, it’s nice to see the resurrection of an example of the level of deep discussion that can be occasionally found on this fine foro of flatulence and, like the by-produce of a well ingested plate of beans washed down by a tall glass of Mango juice, topics such as this can not be corked. Beyond being unhealthy for the corkee, it’s dangerous to bystanders.

It’s a good thread but there’s way too many posts moved to the Recycle Bin. Heck, if I removed every stupid post I made there’d only be about 35 left. Even devilhand would have me beat at 47.
