Doitsujin -> RE: must be all that chocolate (Mar. 26 2014 11:12:50)

Alcohol doesnt make u fat. Its the fat from other stuff that doesnt get worked on due to higher priority to digest alcohol. Just spare out fatty high calory junk when u go out to drink. I get wasted here 2-3times a week and lost 1.5kilos in 3month without too much sports.

Since we’re on the subject:

Possibly the best and most easily readable book on the subject I’ve yet seen, Death by Food Pyramid by Denise Minger, has just been published.

Denise is a recovering vegan who jacked it in when her health started failing. Since then she’s done an amount of research that staggers me. Her original claim to fame was a blog that went back to the original data underlying T. Colen Campbell’s the China Study (the vegan Bible) and tore the book to shreds (with careful statistical analysis among other things). The blog went viral.

Roughly the first half of the book tells the story of exactly how Government eating recommendations got hijacked by lobbyists*; the second sorts out the wheat from the chaff as regards various diets.

Among the features I particularly like are the following:

• It doesn’t take the “My diet is the correct one and all the others are mistaken” line seen in so many books. In fact, Denise doesn’t advocate a particular diet at all. What she does is discuss the pros and cons of various food groups, and what deficiencies you may get if you cut out (or over-consume) one or the other. Of particular interest is what is effectively a Venn diagram (p.224) showing what three apparently totally dissimilar diets (paleo, plant-based & Mediterranean) actually have in common.

• She summarises the work of Weston A. Price, who in the 1930s went around the World studying indigenous peoples, and comparing the health of those who ate their traditional foods with that of those who'd switched to a “civilised” diet.

• She backs up her statements with primary references.

• The whole thing is actually fun to read.

*My favourite anecdote of hers concerns poor Luise Light, who was hired by the USDA, did a lot of research, and produced what she thought was a good, healthy food pyramid. So she submitted it for approval; and the next time she saw it, it was “as if Picasso had redone it”.

P.S. if you don’t like reading, try this:

What's to recover from? Bacon should do the trick. [;)]

Curious what she has to say about the famous "low carbs" diets.

Nothing wrong with a bit of Chocolate.... or even a lot :-)

guitarbuddha -> RE: must be all that chocolate (Mar. 26 2014 19:57:30)

How about 'The Pink Diet' where you shove the chocolate up your a$s. That would help to lose weight, surely.

Or maybe it would just give fat people another excuse to eat macdonalds cause like diets don't work......... because there are no slim healthy people in all the world.

Fat are you Pink?

Alcohol does not make you fat, but beer sure does. There's this stuff in beer called sugar and it is also in chocolate- So I say make some beer with chocolate and drink you alcoholic sugar and be happy.

Pink if you are worried about being fat eat some jalapenos or a habanero with dinner. It jump starts the process of thermogenisis in your system which means it begins the burning of calories while you masticate. That's right you can burn calories while flapping your gums shoving food in your pie hole.

If that does not work I think you should smoke a lot, maybe three to four packs a day for about 6 months and eat steaks like a madman.

If that does not trim you down, move over here with me and I'll be your sumo coach and we'll super size you into a sumo GOD and make lots of money. Then you get lot's skinny chicks trying grab your tackle. And we'll show the damn Mongolians who come her to do sumo what being thrown on your arse means.

*high five team fat Pink*

There is always a no fail solution.

Wrong. There´s almost no sugar in beer. And all what counts are calories. Beer has not many. It´s the food that makes you fat. Not beer.

Actually you're wrong Dr. Dinkus, you just can't hold your beer enough to drink enough to get fat. Drink enough beer and get old and you'll get fat.

Oh you kids, drinking all that beer like you own your own body, you'll see....ha hahahahahah

Doitsugin, you should leave me alone, or I'll tell every one how you have a man crush on me and keep sending me Japanese gay porn. Seriously, you are out of line.

Try about 80 per pint.

Have you never heard of a beer gut? It’s called that for a reason.

(I never had one until I started spending about four nights a week in pubs, playing in a folk group. Then I looked down one day, and there it was.

It took a fair bit of time and effort to get rid of it.)

Paul Magnussen -> RE: must be all that chocolate (Mar. 27 2014 15:30:12)

Curious what she has to say about the famous "low carbs" diets.

My wife was brought up vegetarian, and stuck with it until she was about 30; it wrecked her health.

Then she started reading and trying all the various diets. The one that really works for her is low carb, which she’s been on for several years now. But everybody’s different.

The are potential problems with serious low-carb, notably sodium depletion. if you’re seriously interested, just about the top dude on the subject is Stephen D. Phinney. Get hold of his book with Jeff Volek, Low Cartbohydrate Living.

That will give you the underlying science.

Nope no longer with us ... just like the sight of my tackle whilst I'm standing ....nowhere near a mirror!

pink -> RE: must be all that chocolate (Mar. 27 2014 21:35:42)

Now, this has provoked a fair few more replies than I had initially expected.
I had prepared myself for the odd ''tut tut'' ....''there goes that fat norfolk t wa t with his pi ssed ramblings allowing his over eager plump fingers to attack his micro keyboard and irritate our intelligence again'' type responses , which would in fairness, be quite reasonable except for one small factor!....I'm not fat .Haha....fooled you thee!! A little plump perhaps , but a cousin of the lard block no!!
Now this has set my mind a wondering.....do we have a large fat contingent who are happy to comment on the possible alcohol driven finger mutterings of a t WA t who thinks he may be a larder lout ,with a slight drink/mutter/ramble/drool/tum problem?
I must say that the quality of reply has been exceptional...... but are they all just smoke screens?

I´m sorry.. your post couldn´t be any falser. Here for your simple mind as you won´t understand any real scientific literature.

http://www.menshealth.co.uk/lose-weight/healthy-delicious/drink-beer-lose-weight-44706

It´s not the beer or the alcohol in the beer that makes you fat. You are really not very smart and your way of expressing yourself is the proof. I don´t know what gay porn you are talking about. So that´s your sense of humor? *shaking head*

@pink **** ... was ****... huh :))

Come on now Doit, that Dr Dinkus line must have hurt.

I mean that was like........... genuis, or maybe you are still denying the anguish it caused you.

I mean Dr Dinkus, I bet you wished you'd thought of that.

Like a doctor who is actually a dinkus.

The very thought of it.

Oh lordy, my sides.

Yet the envy............ I mean Dr Dinkus

A doctor who is a dinkus

or, wow I've just realised, a dinkus who is actually a doctor.

Or maybe he just thinks he is a doctor.

brilliant.

Like someone who thinks they are smart and subtle but actually thick and ignorant and childish.

Man o man.

DOCTOR DINKUS.

Just think about it !!!!!!

You must still in your twenties. It's ok you'll grow into a sense of humor and your tummy will get nice and fat.

BTW, I don't get my scientific information from mens magazines. If I'm interested in a topic I draw from several sources such as peer reviewed science journals and then cross reference them to see what makes sense. And read the current popular literature on the subject to see if the writers working to open truths up for the lay person are good researchers.

I'm not a scientist, you are correct sir, and it's pretty snobby of you as scientist to lord that over me instead of honoring your chosen discipline by giving me better evidence than a mens magazine.

I guess you'll never be buying a guitar from me, that's really ok with me.
I don't work for primadonna's and elitist snobs like you.

So leave me the F**k alone.

Doitsujin -> RE: must be all that chocolate (Mar. 28 2014 3:18:47)

@guitarbuddha: Amazing :)!

@estebanana: Read through these and get enlightened:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8116538
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8785189
In short: Alcohol supresses fat oxidation, as result your body stores more of that, which is coming from other stuff that you take in. For calories of a glass of beer see my post above. QED.

Btw the difference between you and me is that your tries to pull off a joke always ends up in childish personal insults, making up funny names, going down to a level of IQ < 80. = fail. My jokes on the other hand are polite and any normal person with a healthy sense of humor and self-irony can laugh about it. Only really dumb people don´t get the sense behind my posts, or very bitter grumpy guys who never see the positive side of things in life,...and due to that, miss it completely. Cheer up sour old man!

And don´t reduce it to I would never buy a guitar from you.. This here is internet and whatever argue happens here...its surreal and doesnt count in real life. Its just funny talk, nothing serious behind it. Hope you find your way out of this sad, grim mindset... and troll in a more polite way, nobody hates you.

estebanana -> RE: must be all that chocolate (Mar. 28 2014 3:41:31)

Yes, the prospect of O’Doole’s is pretty grim, I agree.

At least part of the craving for alcohol is your body telling you it doesn’t doesn’t have enough usable fuel; if you’re eating right, it should go right down.

I didn’t believe that when I was first told it, but it’s worked for me — I used to drink much more than I do now.

Unfortunately, the alcohol isn’t the only problem with some brands of beer. Take a look at this:

http://foodbabe.com/2013/07/17/the-shocking-ingredients-in-beer/#more-13939

Arash -> RE: must be all that chocolate (Mar. 28 2014 15:58:06)

A good german beer with "deutsches reinheitsgebot" (german beer purity law) doesn't have all that sh.it described in the article above.
