Here is another unlisted version of Solo Quiero Caminar.
This LP comes from Argentina. The Sleeve cover is very thin and is made
of material closer to paper than cardboard. It is not really strong enough to contain
a vinyl disc and so has suffered more damage than some of the other covers.
Track lists are the same as the European version.

Here are a couple more items. I will admit that its starting to get harder to find unlisted editions now.
First up is a copy of a single that was already on our list but I had not tracked down a copy.

This next Edition is an unusual gatefold compilation LP from Holland. There is nothing unusual
about the tracks but the cover sleeve and photos are great. It contains 14 tracks and
was produced for the "star collection serie". Sleeve notes are in Dutch. Its undated but must have
been produced in the mid 80s since the newest track on the LP was produced in 1983.

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jun. 22 2016 13:28:21)

A few more items trickling in over the last month. First up is another unlisted track.
I actually posted the video earlier in this thread but didnt realise it was on a recording. Its a version of Mediterranean sundance with John Mclaughlin, Al di Meola and Paco. It comes from the CD "Pavarotti and friends for war child" This is a live album from 1996 of a charity concert featuring Pavarotti with artists such as Eric Clapton, Sheryl Crow, Elton John, Liza Minelli etc. The guitar trio also did a spot for the show and it features on the CD. The CD cover opens into a poster of the event. This recording is quite well sold and widely available so I am a bit surprised that after tracking down so many obscure recordings that this one got missed.

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jun. 22 2016 13:52:05)

Here is the CD produced in 2005 of the album "Maria vargas y la guitarra de Paco de Lucia". This is an essential Paco album and the CD is not too hard to obtain. It contains all 12 tracks from the original 1973 LP. Try as I might I simply cannot find a copy of the original Polydor LP anywhere. It is exceptionally hard to find!

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jun. 22 2016 14:01:52)

I did find a re-issue of the original pressing though. This LP was also produced in 1973 under the Triumph label. It appears to be part of a set of Flamenco recordings and this one is volume 35. It also contains all 12 tracks from the original recording.

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jun. 22 2016 14:19:00)

This next edition is seriously rare though. Its the Polydor pressing of the Maria Vargas album for Japan. It appears to have been produced around 1973 and is part 3 of a 6 part set of flamenco albums. Again it contains all 12 tracks from the original recording. This is the only LP in the set with Paco playing.

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jun. 23 2016 9:01:47)

This next CD is a strange compilation called "The Glory of Flamenco"
Its an Italian produced CD of 19 tracks. Tracks 1 to 10 are the
"Interpreta a Manuel de Falla" album from 1978.
The other 9 tracks are from early albums such as Guajiras, Panaderos, El vito etc.

The amazing thing is that nearly all the track informaton on the CD cover is incorrect. The Manuel de Falla tracks are credited as a live recording from 1972. The other tracks are credited as being from 1967 and Ramon de Algeciras is credited on the wrong tracks....otherwise a great CD[:D]

Here is another edition of la Fabulosa Guitarra. Im not sure if its part of a series or a set called Todo el Flamenco - los palos de la A a la Z. It was produced for Club international de libro. Nothing new about the tracks on this CD which are the same as the original edition.

Here's a BRAND NEW edition to the topic.

"Paco and John"-Live at Montreux 1987

Never before seen footage on DVD high quality sound and picture....it is a double CD and DVD box set, I am assuming the audio came with the already mentioned McLaughlin box years back. He writes a nice forward about the show, and though it is similar to some other concerts on YouTube already, there are several unique arrangements quite different than what has been seen before. Possibly one of the best guitar concerts available to buy commercially IMO. Here is my review on this thread:

I would totally agree. This is an amazing set and an important addition. The concert is indeed the same on as on the Mclaughlin box set. Further discussion of this recording can be found on Ricardos review (above)

To continue here is another version of Fuente y Caudal. This CD was produced in Germany and has the same cover photo as the German "Meister Der Spanischen Gitarre"LP. The CD is undated and just credits the tracks as being produced in 1973.

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jul. 2 2016 12:56:15)

This next recording is very special and unlike any other so far.
This is an extremely rare Japanese version of Almoraima produced in an unusual format. It is a 12" vinyl record labelled 45 rpm Audiocheck. Each side of the record has only 2 tracks. The recording is played back at 45rpm instead of 33rpm which presumably increases the sound quality of the reproduction.
Side 1. Cueva del gato / Almoraima
side 2. Llanos del real / El cobre

It also came with a cool poster inside with a new photo which I think is advertising tour dates. The cover photo is clearly taken from the bridge over the gorge at Ronda....not even close to Almoraima.

Its been a month since my last updates. I have found a few more items and even some more new tracks!!!

First up is another version of "Tu, ven a mi" by la Tana and produced by Paco.
This is the "Henrik Takkenberg Remix", a 2 track promo CD with an Ambient /Trance Remix of the song and the original Album version.

This next compilation is a double CD with 34 tracks spanning Pacos recording career from 1967 to 1990. It was produced in Germany and all the cover notes are written in German by the well known Guitarist, Miguel Iven.
Ironically there are no photos of Paco anywhere on this edition.

Here is a rare version of the 18 track CD "El Puente" with Paco and Enrique Montoya. It was manufactured in Israel under the Music Mirror label. Track lists are the same as the original El Puente CD. Only 12 tracks have Paco and the other 6 are accompanied by Candido Romero and Antonio Garcia.

Any idea how much this lot has cost you so far, Mark? [:o]

edguerin -> RE: Pacos Discography (Aug. 6 2016 16:56:04)

A while back I mentioned that one of my first flamenco records was "Dos Guitarras Flamencas" (without "en estereo"), and that I didn`t recall wether it was the music or the girl on the sleeve that fascinated me more at the time ( I must have been about 17 [;)])
I found it here:
And this was the sleeve:

Its funny because I was thinking about this only last week. A lot of the compilation LPs were found for between 3 and 7 euros each in second hand shops and flea markets. The back catalogue of studio albums can be bought online for around 10 -15 euros each on CD. I would say about 200 volumes can be bought for an average of 10 euros each making a value of 2000 euros.

However there are some discs that are very expensive and hard to obtain. Some of the Japanese discs are worth over 100 dollars each. The 3 original Chiquitos de Algeciras Eps are worth over 200 dollars. Some discs I have only seen for sale once in 3 years. The Niña Brenes EP for example is very rare and worth over 60 dollars. The same is true of the original 1964 Pepe de lucia EP and Paco de Lucia EP. The Antonio Mairena recording is also very valuable . The Japanese Audio check LP is worth 200 dollars and so are the original 1967 Pedro Itturalde LPs. The original Dolores LP is also very expensive.
These discs alone are worth 1400 euros in total.

A lot of the Sevillano, Fosforito and Niña de Puebla Eps are relatively easy to obtain and are worth 10 to 30 euros each and a good deal of the collaboration LPs are similar in Value. I think I have probably spent around 4000 euros on the collection over several years but as a collection it must be quite unique now with many unobtainable discs and a much higher total value.

I still have some gaps though. I cannot find first edition LPs of Maria Vargas or the original Canciones Andaluzas with Ramon. There are some very rare Japanese volumes I cant track down....plus I am still finding new stuff which Im going to post this week

Ed..THANK YOU!!!!!!
Its amazing that despite all my searching I still never came across this album. I remember you mentioning it but could not find it. I will now be able to track it down and add to the collection.

I have been asked by several people now to maybe compile a book of this work. Paco de Lucia - The complete discography.
If i can get permission it might be a good idea to use some of the rarest tracks and make a compilation CD to go with the book. What do you guys think? Would this be a nice addition for your book shelf/coffee table?

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Aug. 7 2016 15:40:57)

To continue here is an unusual compilation CD of the Spanish Music awards 1997.
This has 17 tracks from the award winners of that year. Awards were given to Ketama (best pop/rock song), Gloria Estefan (best latin act), Carlos Cano (best traditional/folk) etc.
Paco de lucia won prize for best Flamenco artist and the track "la Barrosa" features on the CD

That would be fantastic! Crowd funding?

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Aug. 8 2016 17:40:26)

Here is a triple LP set printed in Germany probably in the early 1980s. The first disc is a compilation of material from Fuente y Caudal and Fantasia flamenco and is called Paco de lucia. Its serial number is exactly the same as the Dutch compilation, Paco de Lucia 1974 PHILIPS 63 28 171 (the sleeve mistakenly dates this disc to 1969)
The other 2 discs are Almoraima and Solo Quiero Caminar and the discs have exactly the same index numbers as the original Philips solo albums.

We listed the CD single of "Have you ever really loved a woman?" by Bryan Adams with Paco. Here is the Don Juan de Marco soundtrack with the Spanish cover. The CD contains 10 tracks from the original score.
Guitarists credited on the album are Julian Bream, Paul Kamen, Paco de Lucia, Juan Martin, John Themis, Chucho Merchan, Orlando Ricon, Sol de Mexico, Ana Maria Velez.

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Aug. 8 2016 20:02:19)

I finally got round to watching the movie "The Hit". Its actually not a bad movie with a fine performance by a very young Tim Roth as a rookie Gangster. Terence Stamp plays a London gang boss who testifies against his partners in crime and then runs away to hide in a remote area in the South of Spain. Time passes and two hit men (Roth and Hurt) are sent to find him and bring him back to the big boss. The movie has Paco playing all the way through. Some pieces are directly from his studio albums but much of the score is new music or themes that have been re recorded especially for the movie.

For me the best part of watching this film was that it reminded me of how Andalucia was when I first arrived in Spain with many rustic white villages and few proper roads. Its amazing how quickly Spain has become a modern European country with Motorways, shopping centres and building developments. In this movie we are transported back in time to when Andalucia was a sparcely populated hot and barren land with few luxuries and a certain wildness to daily life.

This next CD is a reissue of the 1996 Guitar Trio Album. It was produced in 2004 under the global rhythm label and titled "Paco de Lucia - The Guitar Trio 1996". Track lists are the same as the original album. It just strikes me as odd that they chose to call it "Paco de Lucia - The Guitar Trio" since this original collaboration is as much thanks to John and Al as it was to Paco.
