(FULL DISCOGRAPHY LISTED ON PAGE 8)
http://www.foroflamenco.com/tm.asp?m=253824&mpage=8&p=1&tmode=1&smode=1&key=

The Belter Antologia del Cante series continues with volumes 2 and 4. Both volumes contain Paco tracks. Volume 4 contains two tracks with Paco and Fosforito while Volume 2 contains one track with Paco and Fosforito and another with Niña de la Puebla and Paco de Algeciras. This is only the second album I have found so far where Paco is credited both as Paco de Lucia AND Paco de Algeciras on the same record.

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jan. 10 2015 16:24:22)

On Page 4 of this thread I found a compilation LP with three tracks by Lolita Valderrama and Paco de Algeciras. One of those tracks was "De Jaen a Sierra Morena" which originates from an earlier unlisted 4 track EP that I found.

Lolita Torres Valderrama "Tierras Adentro" (4 track EP) 1964 BELTER 51.100

I found a compilation LP of Lolita Valderrama tracks which feature the other three tracks from the EP listed above.

Loilita Valderrama LP 1975 OLYMPO L-43

It also contains another 3 tracks, 2 of them the same as on the Trio de Ases Compilation, so there must be another Lolita Valderrama and Paco de Algeciras EP out there somewhere.....

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jan. 10 2015 16:31:20)

...and here it is. It contains all our missing tracks

Lolita Torres Valderrama "La flor que yo te entregue" (4 track EP) 1964 BELTER 51.096

Its very rare and I could not find a copy of the recording anywhere but I did find a photo of the cover from the web which has a picture of a very young Paco playing !!!

Considering that this time last year I didnt even know that Paco had collaborated with Lolita Valderrama, we now have a new section of discography that looks like this

WITH LOLITA VALDERRAMA
Lolita Torres Valderrama "La flor que yo te entregue" (4 track EP) 1964 BELTER 51.096
Lolita Torres Valderrama "Tierras Adentro" (4 track EP) 1964 BELTER 51.100

Ricardo -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jan. 11 2015 13:54:38)

ORIGINAL: Pimientito

Though I note that some Miles Davis reissues by CBS they admit (in liner notes) that tape reels that ran slow when recording would accidentally play the music back faster on a different machine when doing masters, so they had to go back to correct for the pitch and tempo of some recordings.

This explanantion would make sense. I have often wondered if this isnt true for many other old recordings. Some of the 50s flamenco sounds superhuman fast. Also if your record deck has a belt drive, it will affect the speed of the turntable with time so the deck has to be calibrated. A good deck will have a strobe light that allows your to shift the pitch slightly.

Back to the Discography, I found another unlisted Camaron 7" single that somehow escaped through the net.

Camaron con Paco de Lucia y Tomatito - Na Mas Que'r Dia (7" Single)Side B Nuestros Sueños 1984 PHILIPS 880 200-7

That last single with Camaron was the song that Duquende recreated on his last CD.

I wonder Mark if you had time to listen to all those old 45's with singers that you found if there was a favorite hidden gem? My personal favorite remains his album with Maria Vargas.

Uff..thats tough. I really liked listening to the Jarrito EPs because of the dual Guitar work of Paco and Juan Carmona. They really pushed that orchestral idea beyond Sabicas and Escudero. The "El Tupe" EP of Guitar and Tacon is great too. I still think the tablao flamenco LP that I found should be released as a CD. Also from this discography I am now of the opinion that anyone serious about learning to accompany cante could do a lot worse than study the Fosforito and Paco collaborations. Its an encyclopedia of how to accompany each palo perfectly.

Here are a couple more BELTER compilations both called Fandangos. The first (22.295) has a Paco and Fosforito track while the second (22.097) has one by Nina de la puebla and Paco de Algeciras

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jan. 13 2015 9:28:28)

Now we have two more versions of Castro Marin. The first is the Russian edition...I think called "Angelic Melodies" in Russian but the track listing is still Castro Marin.
The second version is the French Edition with a different cover photo but identical track listing.

Here is another LP from the Mano a Mano series.
El Perro de Paterna y Naranjito de Triana.
(con las Guitarras de Paco de Lucia, M. Sanlucar, Melchor de Marchena y E. de Melchor)
With a title like that, I am surprised it wasn't a hit![:D]

Another two additions to the Belter Antologia del Cante series.
Volume 7 contains a Paco/Fosforito track "Por dios, que yo no te miento".
Volume 8 contains a Paco/Fosforito "te deseo de verdad" and a Paco/Niña de la Puebla track "Te quiero tierra bonita" Again Paco is credited as both Paco de lucia AND Paco de Algeciras on the same LP.

Another unlisted compilation with a Paco/Fosforito track that I found in a second hand store.
Figuras del Cante 1972? BELTER 22.678

Also Pepe de lucia and Paco de Lucia. This was already listed but with no index number or reference for the cover.

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jan. 17 2015 12:48:02)

But the most exciting find this week has been this 45 single.
Ricardo asked me to recommend an unfound gem, well here it is. Its a recording from 1963 of Paco de lucia and Jose Greco. I remember reading in a biography that Paco had recorded with Jose Greco but had never heard or found a recording anywhere.

The odd thing is Paco is credited here on this recording as Paco de Lucia and not Paco de Algeciras which is the first time I have seen on a recording before 1964.

I bought this single from a dealer. Ritmos Flamencos 3. Its pretty rare and in mint condition so it sounds like it was recorded last week. Paco must be only 16 years old in this recording. I am wondering how much other material is out there. "Ballet Espectacular" volumes 1 to 4 are all with orchestra. I found a reference for Ritmos flamenco 2 (back cover posted below) but Paco is not on it. With a bit of luck we will find more material with Paco but for now this is a great find and another unlisted colaboration.

Ricardo -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jan. 18 2015 18:56:24)

considering his birthday was dec 21 (end of the year), more likely he was 15 years old on this recording.

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jan. 23 2015 15:46:37)

Two more unlisted compilation LPs that I found on a street market.
Andalucia Canta has the Granaina "Te quiero, Tierra bonita" by Niña de la Puebla and Paco de Algeciras.
Tertulia Flamenca has another Fosforito and Paco track "Campanitas de Oro y Plata"

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jan. 23 2015 16:04:01)

The track "Soñadores de España" by Placido de Domingo and Julio Iglesias was released as a Maxi Single. A maxi single is the size of an LP but plays a single track at 45 RPM each side.
On side B is the track "Seville" from the "Sonadores de España" Album featuring Paco as Guitar soloist

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jan. 23 2015 16:20:19)

Adelfa Soto and Paco feature on another "Trio de Ases" LP together with Flores "el Gaditano"and Morenito de Cordoba. I also found another Adelfa Soto EP with the track "Mi Adelfita" but it is from 1961 on the Discophon label and features Pepe Martinez on Guitar. The song was re-recorded with Paco 3 years later. I posted the cover of this EP for reference. This is not the Paco version of "Mi Adelfita"

Our Adelfa Soto and Paco Discography now looks like this

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jan. 23 2015 16:51:21)

My best finds this week have been two more additions to the works with Ricardo Modrego. The first is a German Compilation LP "Gitarren von Bach bis Beat" It contains 16 tracks from guitarists such as Wes Montgomery, Eduardo Falú, Charlie Byrd, Carlos Montoya etc. It also contains "Gaditanos" by Paco and Ricardo Modrego.

The next LP is one of my favorite finds so far. Its Called "Dos Guitarras Españolas" on the Mercury Label. The track listing is identical to "Dos Guitarras Flamencas" but the 60s cover is straight from Austin Powers.......Groovy Baby!!!

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jan. 27 2015 9:41:23)

Santa bought me a present from Japan (although a little late in arriving).
Its the Japanese pressing of Siroco, for me Pacos masterpiece. Its my favorite of Pacos works not only because of the revolutionary compositions but also because it was one of the first flamenco guitar albums I ever heard. Its already 27 years old but still sounds as fresh as the day it was released. This version comes with a pullout gatefold of photos and biography.

Also listed on the back is the index listing for the Japanese pressing of Live...One Summer Night.

Some more updates this week. I found another of the Mano a Mano recordings in very good condition, this time with El Chocolate and Fosforito. This compilation contains 5 Paco and Fosforito tracks.

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Feb. 1 2015 12:44:18)

These next items are a bit weird. The first is a compilation of disco hits from around 1980. Its a double LP with artists such as Boney M, Spandau Ballet, Abba etc. It also has the track "Chanela" by Paco. It was quite fun to listen to this compilation and it brought back a lot of memories.

Vendaval (Double LP) 1981 RCA SPL2-7400

The second compilation is a promotional disc for DJs or record stations. It contains the tracks Rio Ancho and Almoraima.

I tracked down a copy of the promo single by John Mclaughlin, Al Di Meola and Paco which we already have on our list.

Another couple of compilations. Continuing the BELTER Antologia del cante, volume 14 - Alegrias contains 2 more tracks by Paco and Fosforito.

Next up is another compilation with Various artists, Mainly Jotas, Boleros, Sevillanas etc. It contains the tracks "El Vito" by Paco and "Son tus ojos dos Estrellas" by Camaron with Paco. This was also released on LP, CD and casette formats

Finally for this week I found an original recording in great condition of Canastera from 1972. Price tag at the time was only 265 pesetas.

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Feb. 10 2015 10:51:53)

Two more compilations. The first is another record with a Paco and Fosforito track. "Seleccion de Exitos" contains the Alegrias "Clavel Mañanero".

The second LP can be added to the Niña de la Puebla discography. "Los Campanilleros" contains 6 tracks with Paco and 6 with Ramon. Again, the track "El Escultor" is incorrectly credited to Eduardo de la Malena.

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Feb. 10 2015 11:20:31)

I tracked down a copy of Chonchi Heredias album "Brujeria" from 1998 which is already on our list. It contains the track "Espejo del Alma" with Paco on Guitar, Carlos benevent on bass and Antonio Carmona on cajón.

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Feb. 10 2015 11:44:58)

On Page 9 we listed a promo CD of "La Virgin Maria" by Camaron and Paco. The Camaron and Paco Villancicos that were originally released as 7" singles (like the one a few posts above; A Belen Pastores/ Un Rayo de Sol) appear on this CD of villancicos together with tracks by Manuel Parilla, la Macanita, Moraito Chico and others.

Continuing with the Works of Camarón, I found yet another unlisted rare LP.
This is a Double LP Gatefold compilation of 24 tracks from the first 4 albums.
It contains a great photo of Paco and Camaron in the Gatefold

Paul Magnussen -> RE: Pacos Discography (Feb. 10 2015 19:24:57)

You’re taking these pictures with a camera, not a scanner? How do you get them so square-on every time (all the edges dead parallel)?

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Feb. 12 2015 7:58:44)

My Camera has a square lens! [:D][:D]

Seriously..Im not that good a photographer. I simply take the photo with my phone. The hard part is not to catch too much of your reflection in the cover. Then I choose the option "crop" which cuts the image exactly to the borders of the cover. Most new phones will have this option and then I resize it a bit smaller for posting.

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Feb. 14 2015 9:36:09)

When I paused this research in October I was left with some unanswered questions such as
1. We can see that Paco usually made 2 EPs with artists. A single EP was made made Antonio "El Camborio", Carmen Moreno, Rocio Jurado etc. Are there others?
2. We have listed the 12 track Fontana LP of Juan Cantero. Are there any early EPs?
5. Where are the original EPs on Ricardos compilation, Rafael Ortefa, Niño Brenes, Alvaro de la isla etc.

I recently stumbled across an essay on Pacos early recording career and this has been tremendously helpful in looking for missing material.I am really hopeful that this next series of posts will fill in a lot of the gaps from the 60s.

It says that before recording a series of productions with various singers he recorded a curious EP with "Los de Doñana" together with Isidro Sanlucar (both father and son). I finally tracked it down. It is indeed a curious record. The first track Salve Rociera has a theme by Antonio Lauro as its intro. The picado runs in the song are unmistakeably Paco. The next 3 tracks are just Sevillanas with nice accompaniment. There are some very nice "Paco" flourishes throughout.

Los de Doñana 1970 RCA VICTOR 3-21.099

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Feb. 14 2015 9:53:53)

The essay later lists a lot of material already on our discography. The 2 LPs with Niño de Barbate and a single LP with Juan Cantero. This was a one off recording so no need to look for any earlier EPs.
Next is mentioned 2 Eps with Lolita Valderrama (which we have) 4 Eps with Niña de la Puebla (also listed) 8 Eps with El Sevillano (all listed). Also an EP with Pepe Soto which I didnt know about and yet another colaboration.
