I'm kind of computer-ignorant, and it took me 30 min. just to get this avatar on here. By the way, that is my hand, and my old guitar :). If you want to know what I look like, go to my website, migueldemaria.com. That picture there is only a few months old.

Don't tell me that's a hole in the end of your Tezanos Perez Negra with a cord sticking out!! [:'(]

Miguel de Maria -> RE: Member Profile Photos (Nov. 29 2005 23:01:30)

No, Pat, my Tezanos is sitting nice and warm and comfy in my studio, with new Galli Titanium strings on it :). The poor used and abused gig guitar is a Francisco Navarro. I got it at the same time as the Tezanos because I couldn't bear to gig with it! And I finally paid it off this month too!

Well, isn't being faceless part of the fun of the internet?

It may be if you are looking for a date!!! I think of this forum as a social club where people with a common interest share their experiences. So I think part of the fun is to have a picture of the person you're communicating with in your mind. It is particularly interesting for me to know what these people do for a living, if anything, outside the Flamenco circle.

I thought that in the dating forums you had to post your pic. This forum is to form a communication channel between people from all over the world that have a common interest. So what does what I look like have to do with it? I'm here to discuss flamenco, hear what the knowledgeable people in the forum have to say about flamenco and learn from them and share my knowledge. It would never have been possible for me, living where I live, without a tool like this forum.

I guess my comment about the fun of being faceless is that in this forum you respect the people because of their opinions, their knowledge, their experience and their skills and not based on irrelevant matters, like how they look. My experience is that looks tends to bring various prejudices which get in the way of having a truthful and meaningful conversation. I respect Ricardo, Sorin, Ron, Thomas, Anders, Toddk and the rest of you guys in this forum (can't list all of you...) because of what you have to say, not because of how you look. How you look is a curiosity which I can do fine without.

Incidentally, I do happen to have my picture in my profile, if you are really curios...

OK, I'm not mad at you! Have you tried Saverez Alliance trebles on the Tezanos? They make every negra I have had come alive. I tried the Titanium's on my DeVoe, but the Alliance still had more clarity and sustain. I don't even mess with trebles anymore. I just put Alliance on all my guitars and just play them.

Pat

g,
I'm not going to look at your photo, because I wouldn't want to be biased in my reactions to your posts! I'll just continue to go off of your screenname and try to draw conclusions from that.

Guy,

Point well taken! I never thought of it this way. That's an interesting thought. However, I do have a lot of respect for everyone, regardless of how they look. And speaking of dating forums, you sure won't have any difficlulty finding multiple dates if you posted your picture!

sorin popovici -> RE: Member Profile Photos (Nov. 30 2005 18:11:28)

this is all wrong ...

What are u saying ...if u talk with a people in real life , u tend not to consider
their opinion because of how they look? This is exactly what u are saying.

Things are like that ...everything is information ,so ...how a people
looks ...like it or not ....defines that person also.

For example ..I have a big nose , u can assume I have trouble breathing or whatever (i'm not
very good in deductions).Concealing that information is like deciding what's important or not
.Let me decide what's important or not for me.I'm 24 now and I think I'm over puberty and
thoughts like ..I should be taller, have bigger hands ..or etc.So if u are ashamed of you
dont show it .

Sorry to say it like that , but this is my opinion and I really believe that.If u wanna know
someone new (and the fact that this is not a dating forum it's not really an arguement,be
cause ...u still make friends here and care for people.Except for the sex is the same thing.)
u got to be onest about who u are .
Anyway lets create a poll if u want. For it is very disturbing to talk to somebody that
would not have the courage even to stand up .So stand up and dont cover up your face
when u are talking...again IMHO, this is not ...polite.
I apologize again for this ....but as i said ,IMHO ....bla bla bla.
If u are going to stay for a while on this forum , the picture would be a good idea.

GTG ...here is Saint Andrew's day ...I got to do some drinking.

Hi Sorin,

Cool down buddy! [:D] I'm not sure that's what Guy means, but he can respond himself. In all fairness, I think he has a valid point that some people have filters that that they use to judge others or evaluate their opinions. But I totally agree with you that it does not necessarily apply to this forum.

Ron.M -> RE: Member Profile Photos (Nov. 30 2005 19:38:07)

I've really got no opinions on this at all really...other than to say that I've met Serranito a couple of times...he's pretty small..about 5' 5" I'd guess...he looks pretty wimpish...and has a sort of comical "halloween cake" face.
So what does that tell you about Serranito?

cheers

Ron

Ron.M -> RE: Member Profile Photos (Nov. 30 2005 19:42:57)

Phrygus,
Your member profile and avatar picture is very thin...
Any reason why?
No offense...just asking..[:D]

cheers

Ron

Thanks for the complement, I'm happily married though and not looking for any replacement, in spite of the fact that my wife claims I have no talent for flamenco... (she might be right, sadly).

You'de be surprised how often this happens, sadly. I've seen people not give the proper respect to other people because they were fat, not dressed well or other less nice reasons. When I see someone do that, I lose respect for them, in this regard.

When I responded to Ramin, all I wanted to do is raise an opposite point of view. That there's something nice in the internet that makes us all equal. At the same time I made that response I also uploaded my picture as I saw Ramin's point as well.
