Ok, I finally figured out how to resize a photo to use as an avatar. It's probably not what Ramin had intended, but I love the photo nonetheless. The little angel is my daughter.

Now this is probably the best wine I have ever drank. Oh no just remembered an excellent bottle of Chatue du Beunne which was incredible, and very expensive but luckily a xmas present from a musician harold had been working with. Oh and there was also that bottle that Jonathon Nagy ( an American flamenco aficionado that some of you may know) ordered when we went out for dinner in Granada but I have no idea what it was [:@]

And although my taste these days is for a good Rioja ( like many here) the wine that first converted me was a French red, a 1974 Cote du Duras.

Now Kate, that's being Pijo. So you join the Pinot Noir club????[:D]

One of my best Spanish wines I drank with Jonathan as well. It was a VERY nice Rioja. We had to accept to wait ½ hour. If not, the wine waiter would not serve it. When there was two glasses left, he told us to wait with drinking those, and served us a very nice cake, intended to make the wine taste better. I've never aten cakes with expensive wine, but oh my. .... Delicious.

Ah so that is Pinot Noir. In that case call me pija [:)]

And yes Jonathon knows his wines. I just wish I couold afford them, but as several people here pointed out you dont need to spend a months rent to have a nice bottle of wine. I've got my old standby Faustino Vll with my Sunday roast today. We're eating very late due to power cut.

Ouch, here it is a mere 4 euros and something, depending on the store. When I was in the States we found Chilean and Australian wines the best value, but I am no expert and did not shop around.

I think it is a bit more, about 4.65 Euros, I'll check tomorrow. I like the label[:D] but I would still prefer a 95 Reserva for about 15 Euros, that is at least $50 in the US - import duties to protect those outrageously fruity Californian and Pacific North West numbers you have with the lobster or plank King Salmon (yum!)[;)]

It's great to hear about those "best loved wines ".
Many aficionados aqui...LOL!

Actually (LOL!), I went to Barcelona , after having lived muchos meses en Madrid.
I went to this place called "The Cheapest Restuarant in the World"!
I read it from a book an American friend I knew showed me at the time.
It was advertised in "Europe for $5 a Day", a handbook from the USA , which was a bit like the "Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy".. LOL!
We went with these beautiful looking Scandanavian chicks who were also sorta "backpacking", except I always had a certain respectibility about me, that I'd never wear shorts and a T shirt and all the other stuff the travelling "suecos" (that's anybody up North!) would bring with them.
I always wore proper trousers , a shirt and blazer as would be expected...though my hair was always down to my shoulders...LOL!
Anyway, I went to this place in Barcelona that was called "The Cheapest Restaurant in The World".
(With these two Scandanavian chicas!)
It was like 15 pesetas for a three course meal (including wine).

So we installed ourselves at a table and the waiter brought the menu.
It was basically some Broth , a Salad and a Banana.
The bit I remember about it most, is that the guy opened our mini bottles of wine... with a bottle opener rather than a corkscrew!
The stuff tasted more like petrol (gasoline) than wine.
I had tasted some pretty bad stuff in Spain, but this was another thing!
I spat it out and called the Waiter.
I said to him .... Hold on a minute....but este Vino está "corchada".
"Corchada" was the only respectable word I knew, how to say that wine did not taste great...
The guy almost fell on the floor laughing!
"Corchada?" he said, and just fell about!l

So at the least, I've contributed to somebody's happiness...LOL!

In Madrid it was completelely different.
Lots of little "family" restaurants up the back streets, where the food was fantastic and the friendliness really right on, really genuine...

Beware of Barcelona....LOL!

Lesson two....Try to look like a Gentleman and not like a Freak....!

I went to a place in Barcelona that might as well have been called "The World's Most Expensive REstaurant"...well, it was probably $150 for dinner, and was absolutely horrible junk. Maybe work $10. It also had the very worst flamenco I have ever seen in my life. Our hotel concierge scammed us and sent us there although we asked to go somewhere else!

We've all been scammed at one point or another,...
Just continue it, but IMO , you are not scamming anyone who is satisfied with your performance on the night..
(That's sounding a bit bit Doitjojin LOL!..but you know what I mean here)

In Al Campo it's about 4.30 euros and in Mercadona its about 4.50 euros. If you're shopping in your local village shop 4.65 is a good price.

I think Australlian wines are very overpriced, at least here in Canada. I blame this on both high shipping cost from Australlia and the fact that it is becoming "fashionable" to drink Australlian wines in North America. But I do agree that Chilean wines are good value (probably because of low labour cost in Latin America).

I was travalling in Eastern Europe in September, and to my surprise, I found some really good red wine in Hungary.

Anders, Thanks for the info about Rhone wines! I had no idea they are summer wines. I've been drinking them year round! Also, nice web site. I like your pictures.

I would probably do so as well, if I had some. It's just a feeling I have. They are famous for being delicate to transport, especially the good ones. It's a typical on the place wine. Another good reason for going to lovely Provence.

It may be if you are looking for a date!!! I think of this forum as a social club where people with a common interest share their experiences. So I think part of the fun is to have a picture of the person you're communicating with in your mind. It is particularly interesting for me to know what these people do for a living, if anything, outside the Flamenco circle.

I mean otherwise , people will just talk on their messenger to other people they already

Hmmm...Still doesn't work for me.
Tried to upload a 6Kbyte 170 X 170 jpeg...the window said "File upload successful", but still just an empty frame....same as all the the last times I tried.
Maybe it only works if you use your picture as an Avatar? [:-]

I'm kind of computer-ignorant, and it took me 30 min. just to get this avatar on here. By the way, that is my hand, and my old guitar :). If you want to know what I look like, go to my website, migueldemaria.com. That picture there is only a few months old.
