quote:

Webster's book was told in the first person. It's s different kind of read.

when I read it I thought it was fiction... I thought it was probably based on experience but was heavily fictionalised (if that word exists).... turns out it was based on experience, just not the authors![;)] (there's a thread on here about it somewhere I think)

Edit: several;

People keep telling me that I should write a book about flamenco life in Cádiz, since I have lived here for many years, produced 3 CDs and have known many flamenc@s y gitan@s and drug addicts, often with negative consecuencias. If I did, naming names, I would expect to spend much of my furture life in court or worse[:o]

Turron -> RE: New flamenco novel for guitarists (Sep. 7 2013 22:12:43)

That's why I fictionalised it! (Thinly in some places, e.g. for Manolo Ubrique read Manolo Sanlucar ...)

Just got a good review from the USA:

Captivating. After the first few chapter I felt captivated and couldn't put the book down. Sometimes dramatic, other times funny, the novel describes the world of a flamenco guitar hopeful from the UK on a quest to capture the essence of a mysterious art form.

Just bought it ...

Breathless review of my novel Obsession: A Guitarist In Spain!

She's right that it could have done with some more editing. Skip the first two or three chapters if you want to, then the flamenco action kicks in. So Amazon 'Look Inside' will get you nowhere!

Yes, the photo of a fat bloke holding some pages is me giving a reading at a literary club. I blame it on twelve years of cheap Cruzcampo beer and too much time sat down playing guitar instead of exercising.

Enjoy the book if you buy it.

I might check this out next month when I get some time to breath. It will be a good way to avoid sinking into a Law and Order SVU coma over the Thanksgiving holidays.

I recently read the 19th century novelette Carmen and it was the most flamenco thing I ever read without it once ever mentioning flamenco

Some nice reviews coming in ...

Bumping this back up. I didn't realize it had been so long since I downloaded this book. In any case, I finally got around to reading it and enjoyed it very much. I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't just a straight story about a guy learning guitar. I enjoyed the other characters and was happy that there was an engaging story that intertwined their experiences. As others have mentioned, it really is a page turner. Once I finally started, I blew through the complete book in 2 days.

Is your upcoming novel also focused on music?

mark indigo -> RE: New flamenco novel for guitarists (May 10 2014 20:14:14)

is it coming out in print on paper any time soon?

Ernest69 -> RE: New flamenco novel for guitarists (May 11 2014 1:27:41)

Too funny I downloaded the book 3 days ago prior to this thread and can't put it down.

Turron -> RE: New flamenco novel for guitarists (May 13 2014 15:31:56)

If you're near Sevilla, the Museo del Baile Flamenco might have some print copies on sale. They published it originally, then I published it as an ebook.

MarcChrys -> RE: New flamenco novel for guitarists (May 14 2014 11:22:28)

I love my Kindle. Doesn't replace good old-fashioned books but I have 5,000 of those. It's a nice supplement and great for storing books for holiday reading. I'll download Obsession later today and review it on Amazon. Well done on writing a novel btw!

Robin.S -> RE: New flamenco novel for guitarists (May 20 2014 2:52:11)

Bought it .. Read it..really enjoyed it and it ended right...
Well done.

Turron -> RE: New flamenco novel for guitarists (May 29 2014 23:57:16)

Lots of positive response from Amazon and from you guys for the ebook so I'm working on getting a print version out soon for those who prefer the feel of paper in their hands.

DeMaria99 -> Another new flamenco book (Jun. 7 2014 16:26:52)

Hmm. While we're on the subject, I wrote a memoir of my friendship with Paco de Lucia. Its ebook only now, but print editions will be available soon. (Link to Amazon below)

DeMaria99, I read your book a few weeks ago after it was mentioned in another post here. I enjoyed it a lot. Sounds like you've led an interesting life.

DeMaria99 -> RE: New flamenco novel for guitarists (Jun. 11 2014 16:29:02)

Thanks NeZ. I'ts great to hear that people enjoyed the book and, presumably, got to know Paco a little better.
