Turron -> New flamenco novel for guitarists (Aug. 5 2013 19:54:26)

Hi all at foroflamenco,

This is a bit different: a novel that revolves around the flamenco guitar!
I hope that those of you who choose to read it will enjoy it, and if you do please show your appreciation with a nice review!

Thank you!

Looks interesting. I'd love to read a sample chapter

Jim Kirby -> RE: New flamenco novel for guitarists (Aug. 6 2013 1:45:27)

Is there a print version? I hate reading off a screen - my eyes are done in at the end of a work day as it is, and I get to read from a big 30" Apple monitor.

I'd rather pay for a pdf and print it myself if need be.

Upper left "loose morals and tight rhythm" was the original title of the book and you can read it if you click on it.

You don't need a Kindle device. Just get the free Kindle app for your smartphone, iPod, PC, Mac or tablet and you can read it on that.

Hope you enjoy it.

David

Sounds like we both went from tech. to flamenco to Spain. You wrote a book and I made a documentary - then I went back to tech. (for the money and the love of a woman).

Good luck with it. Your writing style is not at all cheesy and I look forward to reading it.

Turron -> RE: FREE download new flamenco novel for guitarists (Aug. 7 2013 6:07:10)

Thank you. I've watched your documentary (the one about Anders Eliasson, right?) and loved it. It's a real feast for guitar lovers.

One of the characters in the novel is a guitar builder, and has an unconventional purpose for building one guitar in particular.

And there's an ending that will shock guitar lovers! No spoilers, just read it and I hope you enjoy it. Please remember to review on Amazon if you do.

No, I'm going to buy it because I believe you have spent time on writing the book and you deserve to get paid, no matter how small!

Thanks for letting us know and I will surely write a review once I've finished reading it.

A

I read the first chapter on my way to work this morning; so far good :)

Thanks,
A

I've read it. It's good, a proper page-turner. You expert people won't learn anything new about flamenco, but you'll recognise a few situations and character-types, and maybe be reminded of some especially high or low points on your own flamenco trajectory.

can you explain how to do this? Amazon seem to want about 70 quid for a kindle...

I would prefer to buy a print version though...

Turron -> RE: New flamenco novel for guitarists (Aug. 18 2013 13:40:48)

To read a kindle book you need the free Kindle app. You can download the app from here:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/feature.html?ie=UTF8&docId=1000425503
You will need an Amazon account. Go to Amazon.co.uk and search for 'Obsession: A Guitarist In Spain'. When you buy the ebook it will be sent to your device/computer/phone and you can begin reading.

For those of you who would like a print version, I feel your pain but there's a reason why there isn't one. I'm writing a new novel and entering it for a competition. The competition rules state that you must not have published a book under a valid ISBN before. Kindle books don't need an ISBN, so that's why I chose this format.

There are some printed copies knocking around Spain somewhere, which the Museo del Baile Flamenco in Sevilla published two years ago. But they are extremely rare!

mark indigo -> RE: New flamenco novel for guitarists (Aug. 18 2013 18:39:06)

ok, thanks, got it!

Turron -> RE: New flamenco novel for guitarists (Aug. 28 2013 19:48:51)

Anybody read it yet? Whaddya think?

Turron -> RE: New flamenco novel for guitarists (Aug. 29 2013 5:58:09)

Oh.

Turron -> RE: New flamenco novel for guitarists (Aug. 29 2013 6:03:31)

That was a tumbleweed moment. Oh well, why read a book when you should be playing guitar? [;)]

Call me old fashioned.....

but if it appears in print, I'll buy it.

same for me. I downloaded the free kindle reader from Amazon, and paid £1.99 for the book in kindle edition, but can't read more than a page or so on the computer without getting going cross-eyed. I just can't read on a screen.

keith -> RE: New flamenco novel for guitarists (Aug. 30 2013 13:10:59)

amazon usa has the book for free for prime members--a cost of $79 per year-- a pretty expensive library card. one can do a 30 day trial period though. i went to google books which has books on pdf format which one can print onto paper but did not find the book. i did find the book, duende, published not that long ago which is available for downloading. there are several other flamenco books there one can download--and print if so desired.

paul.troutfisher -> RE: New flamenco novel for guitarists (Sep. 4 2013 23:41:20)

I'm half way thru, and like it! It's a real page turner, can't put it down.

Nice Job :)

Turron -> RE: New flamenco novel for guitarists (Sep. 5 2013 6:23:04)

[:D]Glad you're enjoying it, Paul. It's selling surprisingly well, so others must be liking it too. Which bits do you like best?

Stu -> RE: New flamenco novel for guitarists (Sep. 6 2013 7:09:17)

I'll definitely have a read at some point. But have a backlog of books to read at the moment. I look forward to it. Although this tag line worrries me slightly.

"but discovers who his true friends are in this sparkling tale of sex, money, betrayal and death in the heartland of flamenco."

Turron -> RE: New flamenco novel for guitarists (Sep. 6 2013 9:13:29)

[8|]Ah yes - maybe I slightly overdid the blurb. Now that you quote it back to me like that it is a bit over the top. But rest assured there are no chest wigs, boob jobs or Greek billionaires in it. It's about an English guy who goes to Spain to learn flamenco. I just maybe got a liiiiitle bit overexcited with the blurb. Thank you for the heads up on that. I hope you enjoy it when you get round to reading it.

No Conde model A26 guitars were harmed in the writing of this book. Except one. At the end. In my imagination.

paul.troutfisher -> RE: New flamenco novel for guitarists (Sep. 6 2013 18:32:45)

Gosh, really don't want to give anything away. Guess i most like the main thread concerning Ant's road of Flamenco enlightenment.

I'm only at 70% complete, and expect a few more twists and turns ahead!

Sounds awfully similar to Duende by Jason Webster.

Turron -> RE: New flamenco novel for guitarists (Sep. 6 2013 23:06:37)

Same subject matter, yes, that's why it's being discussed on this forum. But this book is fiction, whereas Webster's book was told in the first person. It's s different kind of read.

Blondie#2 -> RE: New flamenco novel for guitarists (Sep. 7 2013 6:29:24)

I'd be interested to read it too, but like the guys above I don't have a Kindle and don't want to read it on a PC screen.
