Very impressive storytelling in the Mineras as well :-)

Does anyone know when that Manolo Sanlucar Zapateado was composed/published?

azamuner -> RE: Grisha new videos! (Mar. 18 2013 23:46:19)

Holy crap.

rombsix -> RE: Grisha new videos! (Mar. 19 2013 2:01:46)

In Barrio la Vina from 1:40 to 1:41 is absolutely hilarious! [:D] I know, I know. Everything else is great, but it's just so funny to see Grisha stumble on something like that. Just makes him more "human" and less "beast" in my eyes, which is nice. [8D]

Olé!

Sean -> RE: Grisha new videos! (Mar. 19 2013 2:25:11)

Great playing as always.

I wonder if he opened up a flower shop afterwards.[8|]

It's always funny to me seeing people sitting in their best clothes and watching flamenco in a concert hall, next to an orchestra. Like seeing blues at Carnegie Hall.

It is all IM... I don't think he is using the a finger on any note. The Minera was fantastic. Very well played.

Ramzi, I have an enormous callus on my thumb that protrudes over the nail. It prevented me to play the bass lines well in all my last concerts. Really sucks.

These videos come from the gala concert of the Guitar Virtuosos festival at the Tchaikovsky hall in Moscow. I played 2 pieces in the first half and 2 in the second. It's difficult to just go out and play your best without adjusting to the stage. As a result I had all those buzzes and little things and the scales did not come out at all.

The full video (adds my interpretation of Sabicas' guajira and the rest of performers including Adam del Monte) can be seen here:

Man this is amazing especially achieving this level of performance in such place as Tchaikovsky hall where the worlds best musicians performances fall apart pretty often. Ole Grisha!

WOW Grisha! That is just incredible playing.
Not in 100 years could I hope to play even 1/2 as good as that but that's ok! You are one of a kind man!
Totally inspirational stuff! Oléeeeeeee!

Grisha -> RE: Grisha new videos! (Mar. 19 2013 16:15:43)

[:)] Thanks!!!

Now I have to go work on my DMA, since this trip allowed me no time to write anything. Flights got cancelled and delayed because of snow storms over Europe and I had to spend 48 hours at the airports in just a week.

Olé!

then it goes back to non-human the way he destroys the next scale. he has worked his picado to such a ridiculous level that anything before the scale has no effect on confidence or tone or anything

I know what you're talking about. That's what I've gotten in the past too from too much alzapua. It can sure make pulgar work tricky...

Cheers hombre!

guitarbuddha -> RE: Grisha new videos! (Mar. 19 2013 22:12:13)

I always admire your work Grisha.

I think in you the guitar has a worthy ambassador. You have the confidence to give credit to fellow guitarists from a variety of traditions and times.

More and more I see individuality in each performance. You seem freer and more able to explore new ideas in the moment . This makes me hungrier still to see you live.

I'd love to see you do a simple program of charming romantic pieces, not the big workhorse Grand Solo or Overture stuff nor the cheesy greatest hits but simple melodic pieces that are personal to you where I would get to hear you explore that guitar, the acoustic, the music and your own response to it. You know music where each chord is lean and perfectly voiced. Or some slow Bach.

Of course I'd still have a big cheesy grin as you ripped through your Paco material.

Keep giving em hell [:)]

Amazing Grisha! And I thought you couldn't get any better. You continue to prove me wrong.

What fingerboard wood is that?

About the callous... filing/sandpapering it doesnt help?

xirdneH_imiJ -> RE: Grisha new videos! (Mar. 20 2013 13:16:55)

well i can only speak for myself, but in flamenco, jaleos are essential...i just hate playing for a totally silent audience, especially as they usually have no clue when a piece has ended and if i don't say thank you, they wait a couple of seconds to start clapping...
jaleos rule!

Grisha -> RE: Grisha new videos! (Mar. 20 2013 15:02:23)

Rui, filing does help, but it inevitably leads to blisters and harder callus in a couple of days.

As for jaleos, I love them too! The thing is, Russian audience is very reserved and usually doesn't show emotions until the very end of the concert. And then they can clap for minutes and make you play encores. Just the way they are. I was that way too until I got my American citizenship. [:D]
