Greatly enjoyed the rest of the concert as well. It's very cool to notice how many rasgueado sounds/styles are represented in this concert. Grishas rasgueados are of course incredible. They set the gold standard for what I wish mine would be. Defined, controlled, yet with a fierce - wake up the dead attitude. But then, I often enjoy dirty and loose as well. Makes me think, while it might be possible to say that some players have more control over tone or are more meticulous about phrasing than others, there comes that point where skilled musicians have passed a certain level and all these details fade into the background of the sum of the players skills and general musicality. That also seems to be when the other, more general and perhaps more abstract things really come out.. like intentionality, story telling, drive, groove etc. Also, at this level risk taking or 'mistakes' become more like spice, keeping the listener engaged. Ok, Don't know where I'm getting at with all of this.. I guess just a convoluted way of saying I love music and find it especially refreshing to see many musicians in what could be a very competitive setting without getting the feeling of a d.ick measuring contest.
