estebanana -> RE: Media Luna (Oct. 2 2013 1:34:19)

See that you do. You have been shirking while I have been hard at work doing Important Historical Research on Conde'.

Here we have a restored painting by Goya of the family of Carlos the 5th. Recent x-ray examinations of the painting revealed that there were guitars included in the first payers of the paint films. When conservators removed layers of paint added 50 years after the completion of the painting it was discovered that Conde's guitars were painted out of the first original version by Goya himself.

This has caused a controversy to arise over the original creator of the modern guitar. Goya's portrait of Carlos' family predates Torres first modern guitars by more than 50 years. This new find has sparked a debate of whether or not Torres invented the flamenco guitar or simply stole the ideas of Conde' and perpetrated an elaborate hoax to cover up his theft.

Scientists are testing the pigments in the oranges of the picture to determine if they are of historical origin, or modern pigments. We shall see, we shall see.

That's not Carlos V...that is George Washington! He warned us about the illuminati condes that would use capitolism to dominate the guitar market and destroy the world economy.

Seriously though, that painting really comes alive now in it's original form, THANKS!!

estebanana -> RE: Media Luna (Oct. 2 2013 14:04:35)

I hear scuttlebutt that the Hirshhorn Museum wants to purchase it, just so it can be near you.

That controversy is UNTRUE, Goya was not King Washington's court painter. His court painter was Gilbert Stuart!

Jeezus, don't you know the history of our own monarchy?

I stopped caring when I learned they were all reptilian (except Lincoln and JFK of course).

Converted to 12 hole tie block? Blasphemy!! or this is a fake. [:D]

Sean -> RE: Media Luna (Oct. 2 2013 19:49:45)

Somehow this white monkey, and the 3 Conde orange monkeys are connected; arch rivals perhaps.

Carlos Amps -> RE: Media Luna (Oct. 2 2013 19:56:17)

Oh boy, i got a special tool to make additional 6 on any guitar, its a loooong drill 2mm, i use 12 holes cause pickup performance is much better and even acoustically the guitar has more sustain and transmission is quicker then oldfashioned rope in the air ... no fake chief, in 2002 I sold GERUNDINO to Eric Clapton, it was a 1977 one with pegs, with my high end pickup inside, Eric still has my pickups in his few MARTIN guitars incl. Black Beauty, i would say that I know enough about flamencas that i can see on a distance which one "sings" without even playing it :-) Latest users and clients incl.Vicente Amigo and Raimundo Amador, both having custom systems .... but these are not available yet in sales

Ruphus -> RE: Media Luna (Oct. 2 2013 21:11:43)

I recall a gigging guitar player named Carlos who in the mid / late eighties would stay in Hanover at a girl´s place whose name was Ilka; the room mate of my girl friend.
From appearance the man could have been roughly you, only then still with hair.

Since first time that I noticed someone mounting pickup systems into acoustic guitars ( and also when an acquaintance of mine and friend of yours pointed out to me a Bellido you intended to sell) under the name Carlos, me for no concrete reason always pictures in mind that Carlos from back then.
Probably unfoundedly, I suppose.
-

My personal and subjective take on drilling fine instruments is: Twelve holes are nice to have, and when well done with no scratches or rough edges why not.

In view of drilling into tops for cable routing, I ´don´t like the idea, specially not when about historical instruments.
Rather would I try miking up.

But the again, I am a closet player with no need to fill halls, so ...

Welcome to the foro!

Carlos Amps -> RE: Media Luna (Oct. 3 2013 8:09:50)

Hey Ruphus, man I cant recall girls names i meet in 80-es [:D] but in that times I was touring, more internationally playing on cruisings, but look, for those who dont want (saddle slot) and endpin hole i have invented this custom sensor with active preamp outside, latest user on live concert was Vicente Amigo in Cordoba on Sept 21. Look at videos on youtube and you'll notice the fullbodied sound that is far superior to e.g. same guitarist using microphone only in UK Chapel few days after. In Cordoba sensor was mixed with micro (infront) with 60& to 40% and signal went from (here yellow) active preamp to my tube preamp, then to mixer. This system is custom made on order .... you can get it with one or two sensors, but the whole double system contains transducer (undersaddle) and 2 sensors inside on guitar top.

How will it stay in place? Not glued I guess.

I personall have problems with accessing youtube, but others here will likely check and compare named recordings. I am curious to hear what they will say.

estebanana -> RE: Media Luna (Oct. 3 2013 11:15:36)

I love the color of early Conde's. They still had taste then. Then they did nto color that looks like traffic cones. I can' t get into that. Nice looking 1974 Carlos.

Also Sean...Who you calling a white monkey? I'm a Pink Monkey and I have a room at the Emperador.

Ricardo -> RE: Media Luna (Oct. 3 2013 15:26:36)

Well, I hate to say it but the characteristic mid range "quack" is very much present in the final sound.
It's not much better than my fishman problend. Anybody can do this experiment...put your ear
touching the side of the guitar and play...that annoying mid range quacking sound is the way the
vibration transfers for all these contact or piezo type pick ups....far removed from the sound
pushed out to the air as a microphone can normally capture. It's just unavoidable.
Dont' get me wrong I understand perfectly well the trade off being volume and balance
with the other musicians, and being able to use ones best guitar for the feel is great. I use
pick ups all the time for noisy environments. But for a concert? Sorry he should just be
using the mic IMO . But for noisy gigs your set up is ideal of course.

Carlos Amps -> RE: Media Luna (Oct. 3 2013 16:58:18)

Oh man... first of all Vicente himself considers the sound of that evening to be great, he is very satisfied, means his ears hear different then ours, then 2nd from the position 6:30 (minutes running) sound is different, more mellow and full, why ...the recording dont show the sound of the evening at all, and its not the way to judge it as "quacky" because the master himself enjoyed it, in his own words .... oh there is other videos where Vicente uses other (new signature) guitar with full system ...I dont expect everyone to love it, but Vicente obviously does :-) and Raimundo Amador, another Flamenco Superstar, loves his double system incl. sensor as well.

Ricardo -> RE: Media Luna (Oct. 3 2013 17:39:41)

The video you posted sounds more natural for sure. Maybe I am sensitive because I use pick systems
a lot and I would just never try it (again) for a guitar concert or traditional flamenco concert where
they have decent mics and sound. Or a compromise could be do the solos with only mic and turn on
the pick for the group numbers? Anyway, glad he likes it, congratulations! [:)]

Carlos Amps -> RE: Media Luna (Oct. 3 2013 18:00:53)

I love when you play MINERA .... :-) uuuhh a hard (strong) right hand, i can hear a real man behind thats resquados, a bit agressive but thats what flamenco music AND girls love ... , too many bad pickups on market are reason for your reaction, I know... thatswhy I am here to change it :-) I would say, for many I am the last destination, after they tried all..... and spent quite amount of cash experimenting

estebanana -> RE: Media Luna (Oct. 3 2013 22:49:33)

I think Vicente Amigo would be a fantastic Pope. Perhaps the best Pope in several hundred years. He would be great playing on the Vatican balcony.

kenjo138 -> RE: Media Luna (Oct. 4 2013 4:10:48)

I have seen A27 media Luna's being sold at one point (red label but no signature with A27 written on the label). Anyone else?

I haven't seen Vicente life on stage for years, but if anyone showed great taste in life amplification over the years it's Vicente.
