that steel string looks cool. Why did you choose flat fretboard instead of radiused? It's the first time I see a steel string with flat fretboard, does it still play comfortably?
BTW did you finger pain go away so you can play the guitar now properly?

I am hoping that my I phone / instagram photo will work here . I do realise there will be variation .

I resisted an iphone for a long time , however for photography the possibility's are amazing . The photo's from the the post before were created by frametastic and instagram . A photographer friend of mine has since introduced me to an app called snapseed wich is excellent .

I dont know what you had for breakfast, but why do you think the steel string has a flat fingerboard?
Its radiussed just like a martin Guitar. 16' I think that is.

porridge, how about sparing the lame joke [8|][:'(]?

Just looking at this pic it looked like lacking radius:

TANúñez -> RE: "Luthiers share your creations" thread (Oct. 30 2013 18:21:03)

That's a very beautiful steel string. I really like how the rosette matches with the other woods. Well done. I bet a little Lee Hazlewood will sound nice too.

Sr. Martins -> RE: "Luthiers share your creations" thread (Oct. 30 2013 18:51:15)

It looks radiused but... what kind of curve would you expect to see with a 16 radius? [8D]

Don't know but I suppose seeing it needs proper breakfast[8D]

The interesting thing is that I also had porridge and just like you, I cant see a 16´radius on that photo. But I know its there.

BTW, I love porridge in the morning and I eat it every day. And sorry if the joke was to lame. Maybe I should stop joking. Noone understands my danish humour anyways and it always creates fuzz.

thanks Tom. I really tried to do something different with the woods on this one. And I like it a lot. In my own eyes, its one of the prettyest guitars I´ve made. maybe I should start making some different looking flamencos. But generally flamenco guitarists are very conservative.
I pick it out and plink a few chords on it, but since I stopped playing guitar 1,5 years ago, its not really turning me on. The violin/fiddle does the thing now

Here goes a little thin help:

Finnish humor is much weirder trust me... What about your finger, has the shallaki medicine helped you to play again properly?

I have to agree with you. It's very nice. Some time back I bought some wood for a steel string that I have not gotten around to building. I really want to get to it now after seeing yours. I'm going to use Ovangkol as well. Any difficulties working with this wood?

Anders Eliasson -> RE: "Luthiers share your creations" thread (Oct. 31 2013 11:46:20)

I had no problem bending it in my homemade sidebender.
As with all figured woods, be carefull. I packed each side in wet paper and toasted it 10 min. I smells weird.
So go ahead with a steelstring. Do you play any tex cowboy music these days?

the shallaki medicine has done wonders. I´m on one pill each 2 days. Max is 2 pills a day. I can clearly feel the day after if I forget to take a pill.. I can work and play the fiddle no problems.
If i play the guitar I can feel some pain, but it could be in my head. Some flamenco chords are the worst.
Right now I dont feel like playing the guitar. The fiddle is good enough for me now. You know, I´m like all spoiled kids, I prefer to play with my newest toys. And besides, I have played music, all styles, for around 40 years, and its not so important what I play on what instrument. What matters is that I happily play every day.
I was a bit tired of some aspects of flamenco, so a break is not a bad idea.

TANúñez -> RE: "Luthiers share your creations" thread (Oct. 31 2013 12:26:12)

I have been studying fingerstyle blues and just kind of messing around really. I'm starting to develop arthritis in the middle knuckle of my middle finger. At least I think it is arthritis. After playing and even some building, it will start to sting or burn really bad. It is frustrating because like you said, certain flamenco chords hurt so my playing is crap now.

Anders Eliasson -> RE: "Luthiers share your creations" thread (Oct. 31 2013 15:18:19)

The guitar I built (just like all 000 or OM style guitars) work very well for fingerpicking with or without claws.
The bass is deep, but not as booming and open as a dreadnaught body guitar.
Its tighter and so, it also makes for a very good Rock guitar if you play with a pick and dampen with the right hand. The trebles are strong, powerfull and sparkling.
Basically it feels like an OM, which was my intention. So, I´m happy with it.

TANúñez -> RE: "Luthiers share your creations" thread (Oct. 31 2013 18:14:03)

I play a Martin 000 that I really like. I'm planning on seeing if I can build one close to it. Your right, these are great for fingerstyle playing.

Anders Eliasson -> RE: "Luthiers share your creations" thread (Nov. 5 2013 10:59:22)

Number 111, a 2A negra with Padauk/coral back and sides. Very percussive and flamenco. Its for sale. There are 2 more photos on my blog or in the classifieds section. Finish is French polish.

Jim Kirby -> RE: "Luthiers share your creations" thread (Nov. 5 2013 22:21:21)

I like the Padauk.

I have a pile of Padauk backs and sides that I cut from a board purchased at the local Woodcraft about 4 years ago. I wish I could convince classical players that it is worth a look.

I don't know why people are sleeping on this stuff so much. I have made the most explosive flamencos out of Padauk, with trebles that ring at the lightest touch.
I haven't made a classical out of it but I think it would work great.

Very pretty guitar Anders.

Anders Eliasson -> RE: "Luthiers share your creations" thread (Nov. 6 2013 16:51:16)

Here´s number 112, a 1A Blanca with wooden pegs. scale is 660 and nut width is 53mm.
There are a 2 more photos on my blog or in the classifieds section. And yes, its for sale. And it can be fitted with mechanical pegs from pegheds.com. Finish is French polish.

wow really nice guitars Anders.

Anders Eliasson -> RE: "Luthiers share your creations" thread (Nov. 7 2013 9:07:51)

#110 is a 2A blanca. 650mm scale, 52mm nut width and finish is French Polish.

The back and sides are what is called silver oak (grevillea robusta) I dont like to use the common name as it creates confusion. Most think its heavy and in family with oak, which is not true. Silver oak is an Australian evergreen much closer to cypress than anything else. The only thing it has in common with oak is the figuring of the wood when perfectly quatersawn.
In fact, when I thicknessed the back, I did so together with a top grade piece of cypress and I ended up with the same thickness, stiffness and weight and a tap tone just a hair below the taptone of the cypress. And it sounds and feels like cypress. And it looks very good in my opinion.
I will not build more 2A guitars with this wood. I will reserve it for special 1A projects.
There are more photos on my blog and in the classifieds section.

Jeff Highland -> RE: "Luthiers share your creations" thread (Nov. 7 2013 9:20:30)

That looks great, magnificent medullary rays.
We also, more frequently call it silky oak here
I've got a few boards here, but nothing well quartered like that

Andy Culpepper -> RE: "Luthiers share your creations" thread (Nov. 7 2013 21:29:59)

Not spamming at all Anders...

I wanted to show a couple pictures of a new blanca with the first coats of finish on. IMO this is the prettiest guitar I've made, and I want to keep making blancas with this aesthetic. I can't say exactly why but I feel like I've finally got all the little tiny details into harmony. It just suits my aesthetic tastes.

That is a good looking blanca

krichards -> RE: "Luthiers share your creations" thread (Nov. 8 2013 7:17:44)

that must be the thinnest back joining strip I've ever seen!

And interesting wood. I believe it has a similar density to Cypress.
How does it compare in sound/response?

Andy thats a tight design. Your guitars are getting more and more elegant and traditional.

Kevin, I find that the wood is so close to cypress in sound and response that if i was blind folded i wouldnt know which was which.
The 2 blancas that I´ve posted here (1A and 2A) I built together and tried to make them as close as possible. They are very close indeed. The 1A being a very little bit tighter, but has a longer scale and a "finer" soundboard. They both sound very familiar to me, meaning they are both typical examples of my blancas.
