I totally agree that mastering fast picado is a mental control. Pepe Romero was right when he said it's not about how fast you play it's about how fast you relax. In order to relax fast one needs a full mental control.
Teaching your brain to relax your finger right after your finger rests on the lower adjacent string is a long slow process. With focused practice it's possible within a few months. But right and left synchronization and string crossing make it more complex.
I already started to verbalize the speed like Paco and R. Cortes. I hope it will help me accelerate the whole process of mastering fast picado.
