u good looking enough all u need is an Italian accent, long hair and a few days at the gym [;)].... i honestly think she was flirting more with his fame, she must have known who he was ......if it wasn't " Fabio" it would have been some sleazy old guy with long hair, over the top Italian accent and saggy muscles that have maybe a couple of good years left in them.....fame and money is the no 1 aphrodisiac ...u should have "accidentally" drooped some coins on the floor to to get her attention but then again i dont know the guy [:)] i am kidding...

Every now and then they'll record a bulería or a fandango or something and really confuse everybody. Supposedly the individual guys in the band can really rock the flamenco when they want to. 11-Johannes Linstead - See Armik. 12-Jesse Cook - Cheesy, but the guy does have a good sense for composition and melody, which is more than can be said for hacks like Armik. Some of his albums are definitely enjoyable but by the time he released that live album I found his whole schtick kind of tired. Not flamenco by any stretch, however.

Regarding the Gipsy Kings... I was in Istanbul last year with my wife. She is a flamenco dancer and scholar and she was doing some research for her second book on flamenco dance. While in Istanbul, we hung out with one of the Gipsy Kings...a guy named Kivanch Oner. GREAT guy...totally unassuming. Kivanch put us in touch with some local flamencos so that my wife could do some research on flamenco in the diaspora. I can assure you that Kivanch is well-steeped in flamenco tradition! His local homeboys were really serious about flamenco. If anybody has spent time in Istanbul, you might have met Alper Kargin (great guitarist), Ata Erdogrul (guitar/cante), Manuel Reina (dancer, originally from Spain). GK aren't my personal favorite, but they can be fun for a listen and Kivanch is really a great, great guy and has amazing knowledge of flamenco.

There is one diference betweem Ojos de Brujo and Chambao: CHAMBAO is dooing very fresh fusion and really nice music, there is much more flamenco influence that u thing. Ojos de brujo are musically very poor and the voice of that girl ofends me, really. They are famous becouse they have sort of revolutionary style and lyrics, also uses "cool" electronic effects [:'(].. The group is focused to youngsters here in spain

He has been friends with them for years. Kivanch and I were roomates for like 4 years, we met at PDL concert. He has organized several concerts for their sons who have their own group that does originals and covers of their parents standards. He has run into some trouble with marketing the group because world marketing won't allow him or them to relate what they do to the ACTUAL gipsy Kings. (I know it is funny how retarded that is). Last year I was at Kivanch's wedding in Istanbul with two members of the jr group and an other friend from the states and hung out with the same people you mention. Kivanch was always into GK and we played together for years...all the time I tried to push him into a more flamenco direction but his heart was always just rumba. he taught me lots of turkish pop tunes that we performed together mixed with rumbas, and of course through him I have had several opportunities to play with the real GK's both informally in after parties and also once at a cancer benefit on stage. So anyway your story just struck me kind of funny, but thanks for sharing! Ricardo

Wow...amazingly small world! That's cool that you got to hang out with some of those same folks! I really enjoyed watching Ata and Alper play. They were GREAT guys, too! Spent a lot of time with my wife and me, as did Manuel. We must have just missed each other because we were there last year, too!
