That's probably it.[:D]
You should definitely try it in case you have been playing on high tension strings before. High tension strings make your soundboard very stiff when pulling it up.
On all guitars I have owned normal tension strings came out louder and with more brilliance than any high tension strings I have tried, I imagine that they give the soundboard a greater tolerance to vibrate.

Yep, don´t know what Augustine Blue are considered in terms of tension, but almost all of other brands that I used have been high / super high tension, since ~ 25 years or so.

I think to have softer sets in the closet, and shall try them next time.
- At least the trebles; for Augustine blue basses are most crisp and durable that I have come accross.

I would not suggest augustine blue. At least not the treble strings. They really often broke instantly when I attached them to my guitar in past. But augustine gold are great.

I never had that over the course of over three decades and a number of instruments. ( Really, can´t remember breaking of trebels on a single occasion.)

What you experienced must have been due to nut or saddle / bridge of the guitar used.

The Regal and Imperial trebels seem better in quality however than the trebles of the standard set ( in terms of brilliance and intonation ).
