i dont think it makes sense to put a limit on the number of compáses as we'll all be doing it in a different tempo... also why should there be any restriction on right hand techniques? if you CAN improvise bulería compáses for a minute, it'll be instinctive, you won't want to think about "oh i can't play this Pai because only Pmp was permitted"...that's stupid... i was hoping for a proper advanced challenge as there haven't been one in a really long time and we've organized about 2 for intermediates and at least 4 for beginners since...

I'd be down for a straight-up compás challenge at the very least because it would give all of us some good ideas for making our bulerías more interesting. But it shouldn't just be a competition. One of the great things about the foro competitions is that we don't just show off what we know, we learn something new which we can use even if we don't win the challenge. I'm not sure if this challenge would be amenable to getting tabs or something to follow - though I think it would be great if before the challenge a few advanced foro members wanted to contribute a few YouTube videos demonstrating different compás patterns so that challenge participants have ideas. What I think is more realistic, though, and probably better for everyone learning, would be if every entrant also posted a video (after the challenge) demonstrating the compases they used, slowed down. We'd all come out of that with a pretty great repertoire of compás ideas!

Let's make this challenge open to anybody then, including advanced. That means that everyone will know that there are advanced players in the challenge, but they can still try to go up against them even if they are beginner-intermediate. I think it's a pretty awesome way to do a challenge because there may well be some "advanced" players here that can't necessarily play lights-out killer compas. And everyone will get feedback (only concern is it would be a lot of work for judges) There are no technique restrictions.

Agreed. Its called a "Challenge", and not a contest. We're only really "challenging" ourselves, and the prize is= we get great feedback and we all get to hear each other play. The important thing here, is that everybody posts something. Anything. Just do it, you'll get a ton out of it. Having to play something that you know other people are going to listen to critically will make you look at what you're doing in new ways, and make you a better player. TK
