Lucky i will still be on holidays in 4 days time. 20 or more contestants[8|]

CarloJuan -> RE: need judges for intermediate challenge! (Jan. 2 2011 5:08:33)

I AM EXCITED!!! but not joining....................yet. [:D][:D]

Pretty soon these challenges need sponsoring. haha [:)]

KMMI77 -> RE: need judges for intermediate challenge! (Jan. 6 2011 4:16:19)

Leo,

I have not been involved in the judging before. Am i right to assume that we follow the same system as other challenges. Providing an overall score out of 30 points?

Florian -> RE: need judges for intermediate challenge! (Jan. 6 2011 14:10:11)

In fact I think the idea of the contestants judging each other is a very good one.

From the time I've been on the Forum, I've always found students to be very fair.

Let's make it that a contestant can't give himself a score.

I dont know Ron......there's room for strategy and human temptation..some are more competitive then others ([;)])...

the voting system now is clean, 100% full anonymity....no need for doubt or wonder about strategic scoring...i am thinking why mess with that

contestants can give feedback and comments after judging or do a separate unofficial judging expressing their opinions and scores..to take place the same time
judges do the scores the official scores (to be revealed after official scores are shown).....

what is there to be gained by doing this on top of what we already have ?...other then doubt and messing with a perfect system

just my 2 cents

at_leo_87 -> RE: need judges for intermediate challenge! (Jan. 6 2011 14:45:26)

kris,
yup 30 points.
10 - technique
10 - compas
10 -aire

but the most important part are the comments.

I see what you are saying, Flo...

But in cheating or voting strategically, you are doing so in the full glare of an open Forum and since your identity will be revealed at the end, you stand the chance of blowing your cred and respect in the eyes of other members.

Also the votes would not be posted bit by bit, but returned to the Admin who would release them all at the same time.

So there would be no chance of tit for tat voting or even voting in accordance to how a particular member voted for you in a previous challenge, since the names are all anonymous until the final results are posted.

So any "victory" through cheating would be a rather hollow honour.

cheers,

Ron

Ron we tried that last year and everyone complained. It meant that nothing could be posted until all the results were in which took a while so some of the entrants weren't happy. Then some of the judges said that collating all the comments meant theirs weren't in the context they wanted so they weren't happy.

Lastly I was the admin and it was a f**k of a lot of work, so I definitely won't be volunteering to do the admin like that again!!

Maybe there is a better way of doing this, but from experience I think it's not that.

i understand but at the end of everything ...how do you prove someone doing strategic voting ?...all they have to do is say ..." its a matter of personal taste" and that's that conversation over [:D].....u dont have to know the name of the player to know who your competition is or who has a better chance of winning...whats to stop a contestant from moderately and deliberately and not too obvious ...with a point or 2 increase his chances...by scoring a really good entry hes threatened by one or 2 points less and scoring an average entry 2 more.....

and all it takes is another that thinks like him ...(lol now that i gave them the idea) and now u got strategic voting... but its so unobvious that noone will call it..and when they do " - was just my taste"

and what if someone really does innocently do something that resembles strategic voting to us but hes actually innocent ?..

i am not against your idea i think its nice to get as many people involved as possible...but i also think we would be opening the door to unnecessary suspicions and arguments.....but perhaps if you guys wanna experiment and try it
i would be curious to see the results...i bet everything i got there would be problems and arguments and unhappy people :-)))

btw..i am not saying any contestants here cant be trusted or anything...my argument is why allow room for any doubt and suspicion

xirdneH_imiJ -> RE: need judges for intermediate challenge! (Jan. 6 2011 15:52:52)

if it ain't broken, don't fix it...

(these are many, long files, so it'll take a while judging them fairly...)

mezzo -> RE: need judges for intermediate challenge! (Jan. 6 2011 15:59:43)

why long file? isn't it the falseta who desserve the attention here?

Florian -> RE: need judges for intermediate challenge! (Jan. 6 2011 16:12:24)

HEy

apologies is my posts are always so long ...are they ? i have one of those wide monitors and here it looks acceptable...i guess i always need about 20 sentences to say what most of you say in 2 [;)] sometimes i read myself back (like now) and notice that i have about 10 sentences repeating the same point ... with diff words lol

Another thing....why has your spelling improved so much?

Did you swallow a dictionary or something??[:D][:D]

Christ, you'll be writing a critical essay on "History and The Modern English Novel" for the Literary Society shortly if you keep this up. [:D]

cheers,

Ron

LOL!

Hey...wouldn't it be great to have a "FalsetaChecker", where you play a falseta through the checker and it auto-corrects all the compás errors, cleans up the playing, balances the sound and suggests alternative notes too?[:D]

cheers,

Ron

Hi Flo,

I think that thread was maybe started by Dominic (as well as the great "monkey" threads).

A year or so ago, Dominic said he wanted to quit the Forum and have all his posts deleted.

That's probably why they are not searchable.[&:]

cheers,

Ron

ok cool , cheers [:)]

xirdneH_imiJ -> RE: need judges for intermediate challenge! (Jan. 6 2011 21:45:26)

Florian Tolstoy would be pissed if he had seen your comment :D

yes it's the falseta that deserves the most attention, but i still listen to the full length of the files...

Adam -> RE: need judges for intermediate challenge! (Jan. 6 2011 22:44:18)

*facepalm* I meant Crime and Punishment II, of course! My apologies to the famous Florian Tolstoy.

Adam -> RE: need judges for intermediate challenge! (Jan. 6 2011 22:45:22)

(It's the eagerly-awaited follow-up to his acclaimed bestseller "The Brothers Karamazov II: Alyosha's Revenge.)
