I didn't either. I lived opposite his shop just down the hill from the Alhambra when I was waiting for Manuel de la Chica to finish a guitar for me. I tried many of Bellidos guitars repeatedly over several months, and couldn't find any that compared to Chica, yet they were almost twice the price. Not very percussive sounding, and they really needed new strings to sound good.

Bellido was pretty well known at the time, and the craftsmanship was excellent, but the sound was disappointing. But then, I was comparing him to Chica when Chica was at his peak.

I had the opposite experience, I bought one in 2007 which I sold in 2008,

great flamenco sound but the craftmanship was not very good and th neck

was too thinn ! comparing prices in Granada, Jose Manuel Fernandez is superior

to those Jesus Bellido guitars, around €2000 you get a great guitar from Jose.

Manuel de la Chica, I have never tried any guitars so I can't say anything about

his guitars.

Cool video.
I've suddenly noticed a lot of videos from this channel popping up on my yt feed. There's a lot of enticing stuff on that channel!

I like Jose's guitars better.

Are you able to explain why, please?

Echi -> RE: Jesus Bellido (Feb. 3 2024 9:52:03)

A matter of taste I guess?
I have a nice José Lopez Bellido (1974) too but I have played lovely guitars made by Manuel which I consider at the same level or even better.
My José Lopez has thick and sweet trebles which makes it very expressive, but becomes aggressive if played hard, in the Reyes style.
I’d say it’s similar of a Reyes made in the late sixties but with more core to the note and less harmonics and clarity. It’s not particularly loud but project very well and a lot of people ask me to buy it.
