cathulu -> RE: Juan Martin Articles/interviews (Jan. 17 2008 14:47:40)

Here he is...

Ricardo -> RE: Juan Martin Articles/interviews (Jan. 17 2008 17:37:13)

Normally I keep quiet on this topic but some quotes got me going.

Thanks to being in london he got to "play" with miles davis??? He is not famous in Spain because his "teacher" paco de lucia was "all the rage"???? Japanese people have the "problem" of playing perfect with no feeling???? Flamenco lacks the improvisation modern jazz has, that paco de lucia and HE HIMSELF "discovered"????? Jazz musicians are "terrified" by "our" right hand on the guitar?????? The form that best describes the English...Granainas????

WTF

scarfaze -> RE: Juan Martin Articles/interviews (Jan. 17 2008 19:04:42)

Good point there, but what I meant with not "strictly" flamenco is that he went to england, played with different people ect so maybe he doesnt live the flamenco life! I dont want to get this topic on fire but my whole point is that to me (btw im not spanish) Juans dvd was the only way for me to learn this beautiful art! and I searched a lot but some dvds were in spanish and I couldnt understand a word!

But again, my fav player is still PDL and I agree with you that JM is not as flashy but remeber that he plays with feel and that is more important in a Musical sense.

Regarding comments made by Ricardo I agree with you that some of JM `s comments in the article are BS but some are true like the one that jazz guitarists are terrified by flamenco`s right hand! I used to play electric guitar and when I saw Flamenco guitarists playing, their right hand amazed me! But I agree with you on some points like the one where he said that Paco was all the rage! That one was surely Bs and out of place!

Florian -> RE: Juan Martin Articles/interviews (Jan. 17 2008 19:58:41)

OK OK ( cuban accent) mibe ! he might have lied there and on the website and in a us guitar magazine and on his artist BIO and on the back of the cd cover A litl bit !, but that dosent make him a lier, does it ?!...they are all missprints, fabrications and missquotes !

None of ju can proof anything !! so **** ju man !..ju need people like me to point too and say there goes the bad guy.

I really had to restrain myself too, but since you mentioned it.....
.......those particular quotes you picked out certainly raised my eyebrows.

Why Granaina for us English??

Florian -> RE: Juan Martin Articles/interviews (Jan. 18 2008 3:09:27)

I know, I know!

Why is it that old Juan riles so many people here?

You "could" be wrong here Ricardo....maybe he and Paco together really did create the "new wave" of Flamenco, but Paco just stole it from him? [8D]

cheers,

Ron

koella -> RE: Juan Martin Articles/interviews (Jan. 18 2008 9:14:32)

Same here. I bought his solo Flamenco books and it introduced me to playing Flamenco.
I have joked JM in the past and it was all in fun, but I will stop.

It was mean of me to say he was sponsored by "Tan in a Can"

this idea that PDL is flash and has no feeling, while JM is not so technically capable but plays with feeling is just too much.... I've seen both play live, and on cd, PDL has more feeling in his pinkie than JM has in both hands, PDL has awesome technique and he uses it to express emotion, wringing it from the guitar in a way JM can only dream of....

by the way, one time I saw JM even he apologised to the audience for not playing very well!!!

HemeolaMan -> RE: Juan Martin Articles/interviews (Jan. 18 2008 15:24:09)

i´d really like to know where he gets his shirts, i could do with some new ones

my shirts just arent as fun or ¨flamenco¨

that and his pants always seem to have a really good cut, i´ll bet he has a magnificent tailor.

i'd like to get a few tips from him on that. and then he and i will discuss our picado along with ricardo/tomatopacocente
