srshea -> Terremoto/La Nina Tangos- Same Melody/Diff Letras... (Feb. 17 2010 14:36:54)

I pulled out Terremoto Hijo’s Cosa Natural for an in memoriam listen this morning and noticed that the first letra of his tangos* follows the same melody as La Nina’s “En Barcelona a Valencia….” *Sigue cantando ti historia Sigue cantando, Gitano Que el mundo no es una noria Nos cria a tos como hermanos Same melody but different letras except for the “Al gurugu, etc” tag at the end. I identify that melody with La Nina, and think of that as “her” tangos (in my own limited and still developing understanding of how all this stuff works). So, couple questions. Is that melody actually hers or is it just some trad/generic tangos melody? And if it is hers, would you call what Terremoto is singing “Tangos de La Nina de los Peines” even though he’s not singing her letras? What’s the primary determining factor that makes something “Solea de Whoever”? Is it strictly the melody, with the lyrics up for grabs? Also, does the “Al gurugu” thing “count” as a line of its own or is it just something that’s tagged on to the end of the last line? It kind of seems like a nonsense filler sort thing like “le le le”, but it also seems to perform a melodic function by dropping the scale down to resolve the phrase. Sorry if this these are all really dumb questions with overly-obvious answers....
