Hola,

Well, back to important things... How are people doing with the challenge?

I've got the notes now, but recorded myself playing it yesterday and it sounded b***dy awful. It's amazing how different my playing sounds in my head to how I actually sound in reality! [:@][&o]

Huh????? Are you serious Jenny? Can you already play the whole piece?
I've got some serious problems getting that ringfiinger down, not quite in control yet...

In my head I am playing the whole piece fluently, but in reality....[:@]

Jenny -> RE: **Tangos Beginners' Challenge here!!** (Jun. 17 2009 8:00:09)

Ok, let me be more specific...

I know where most of the notes SHOULD be... [8|] but can't make any of them sound ok yet. Glad we've got ages to work on it!

El_flaco -> RE: **Tangos Beginners' Challenge here!!** (Jun. 17 2009 12:19:23)

I'm in as well.

Ailsa -> RE: **Tangos Beginners' Challenge here!!** (Jun. 17 2009 12:23:31)

Bienvenido chico!!

Ailsa -> RE: **Tangos Beginners' Challenge here!!** (Jun. 18 2009 5:19:35)

You're on the list. Definitely not too late - loads of time..... relax..... chill....... and do some practice too [:)]

El_flaco -> RE: **Tangos Beginners' Challenge here!!** (Jun. 18 2009 13:46:18)

Hey Muchacha!!!!!

Another challenge, this'll be fun.

Aug 31st. Yes!!!! maybe this time I can play it up to speed.

cathulu -> RE: **Tangos Beginners' Challenge here!!** (Jun. 19 2009 15:14:26)

Hey, I'm lovin this challenge! Which loop we gonna use? I like Anders loop, you can always speed it up if necessary... we should all use the same one?

Also a bump to get the other crap down the page as quickly as possible. [;)]

HemeolaMan -> RE: **Tangos Beginners' Challenge here!!** (Jun. 19 2009 22:11:50)

the gp5 does work. just copy the download link that pops up in the little window.

then open gp5 and go to "open" then paste the link in the space and hit open. it will then open it and save in a temp folder in your browser directory somewhere. you can save it somewhere else

Hey, I'm lovin this challenge!

It's great isn't it? As soon as Ramzi uploaded it onto youtube it was straight into my favourites!

Re loop: my view would be whatever you feel complements your playing best. I don't really care about speed - a slower tangos can still be a groovy tangos!

Any other views?

cathulu -> RE: **Tangos Beginners' Challenge here!!** (Jun. 20 2009 11:02:16)

Yes, I think a slow tangos sounds pretty cool, and the 130 bpm is not to bad for that... or even slower to suit our skill set.

Regarding the videos, very kind of Ramzi to upload the slow one. I notice even Ramzi can improve his fingering efficiency, for example he removes the third finger on the F note before the 16th note ligados on the third page of the tabs, and then has to put it back. So we should leave it on, no need to take it off.

That is something for us beginners to really work on, our fingering efficiency. Good habits reinforced will pay off in the end!

Ailsa -> RE: **Tangos Beginners' Challenge here!!** (Jul. 5 2009 2:27:21)

OK people, hope you haven't forgotten about this -
deadline 8 weeks tomorrow !!

I've been listening to get it in my head first and now have started to learn where the notes are. I know the first falseta now (though I can only play it at the speed of Ramzi's slow demo! [:D]) I'm not finding the stretches too bad but my barres are just %$£*)&!!! Just have to hope that after 8 weeks practise they will be better....

Keep practising everyone [:)][:)][:)]

cathulu -> RE: **Tangos Beginners' Challenge here!!** (Jul. 10 2009 15:47:08)

Back from holidays and now it is time to attack! [:D]

ARJR -> RE: **Tangos Beginners' Challenge here!!** (Jul. 10 2009 18:07:13)

I might sound really dumb here but I was wondering if I could enter the challenge.

I don't even play flamenco but I've played classical on and off for about 9 years.

Would I be too advanced? I would just like a critique of my playing, that's the only reason why I would enter.

Don't have time to really get into flamenco but you guys have a lot of good
things going on here and a lot of talent as well. So some feedback from the judges
would be awesome.

Angelo

cathulu -> RE: **Tangos Beginners' Challenge here!!** (Jul. 10 2009 21:07:44)

My feeling is you should hang around for a while first, see if you really want to get involved with Flamenco. You don't sound that interested to be honest, and would just poach the judges time.

Judging is work believe it or not, and without judges and interest these challenges will fade away imho. So we should not abuse their good graciousness.

So, ask yourself are you really willing to commit to this forum, if you are just jumping in for some feedback on your playing and then will walk, really why do you want to join in?

Just my opinion, Ailsa has final call as she organized the challenge...

ARJR -> RE: **Tangos Beginners' Challenge here!!** (Jul. 10 2009 22:03:27)

I just wanted a reason to start practicing again and this seemed like a good idea.

I don't want to waste anyones time so if there are to many participants
I'll wait till I can contribute more.

I would post more but I don't really no squat about flamenco.
So far this forum has been my only resource for flamenco.

Angelo

Ailsa -> RE: **Tangos Beginners' Challenge here!!** (Jul. 11 2009 1:33:21)

Hi Angelo, well the Foro is completely open and we don't generally turn anyone away. At the classes I organise we've got guitarists who play classical, blues, bossa nova, you name it! So that doesn't really matter. And while you might find the notes easy I don't think you would be too advanced in terms of getting the right flamenco feel. That takes years!!

On the other hand the challenge is really for people working at flamenco. And cathulu is right - it's hard work for the judges.

But if you just want a critique of your playing, you can get that for free anytime! The audio and video uploads section is full of people just showing what they are working on and people will make helpful comments on how to improve.

So my suggestion is that you work on a piece of flamenco - the tangos challenge if you like - and upload it asking for comments.

Does that sound reasonable? I don't want to turn away someone that is keen, but also want to make the challenge work well for everyone.

Best

Ailsa

"So my suggestion is that you work on a piece of flamenco - the tangos challenge if you like - and upload it asking for comments."

That sounds fair, I'll try the tangos and I'll upload my version after the challenge is done.

Thank you,

Angelo
