Here are Yaelisa's comments and the winner of the Challenge.... Anant Patel: nice aire, good technique, funky. Strong tempo. Laszlo Schaffer: played it without a metronome, that was ballsy. However, he went out of compas towards the 3/4 mark, so he could have used the metronome for the discipline. I think he should continue to practice this slowly but with a metronome to develop rhythm. Ramzi Bey : good tempo, good rhythm, good hands....I think he should attack the accents just a bit more and it would improve the overall performance. Doitsujin: Very good technique, a bit sloppy here and there, he expresses confidence when he plays and accents well to give it aire. I think he should not start with tapado, he needs to practice that more. Nigel: He needs to be able to HEAR when he gets behind and jumpstart the engine in compas, however, he played most of this out of compas. Matic: He played with a relaxed air that I liked, and if this is the hardest falseta he's ever learned, he did very well. Maissam: Started out fine then got very behind, and could not get back in compas. Its important to be able to do that. In summary, it was obvious that everyone worked very hard. This is a hard falseta rhymically, and it would be easy to get lost. However, my main comments are that everyone could improve on the notion of taking a complex falseta and being more aggressive on the accents without losing the relaxed quality required.....a very hard proposition but many of you were on the path to that goal. Secondly, compas is #1 and when you lose it, you must learn to stop and listen for split seconds and get back in. You can always add an extra 6 beats to anything and it still is a cool falseta, but getting out of compas is never cool. The player that was the most funky was Anant Patel. He did a super flamenco lick during the tapado, and his tapado was the best. Doitsuijn didn't have great tapado, but his technique and command was the best during the falseta, except for the end, where I didn't like how he ended. This was a hard decision because both players have qualities I really like. But I will pick Doitsuijn. Congradulations Doitsujin!
