Yeah, I got the falseta under my fingers and have 2 months to tighten it up, so doit get your groove on.

Doitsujin -> RE: Flamenco-lessons.com turns 2 - A new challenge... (Mar. 28 2009 12:48:36)

I already play it backwards with socks on my hands.[8D]

[:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D] Just make sure you upload a vid-I don't want to have to compete against any digitally edited backward sock playing.

[:D] I think I´ll play without the socks on my hands, they are just for practicing.

Hey a video is required for this challenge.

I rechecked the video of roberto again. Jason, you made the falseta for him? Thats very nice IMO. He´s very lucky to have you as teacher at that age. Man,.. I would have been happy with such a teacher.. I learned classic with teacher but flamenco only with workshops and playing in 100000 dance classes where more experienced guitarists payed than me. Never had a good teacher to talk directly with about my technics... But maybe good, too, because I learned to hold and move my hands like it was most comfortable for me. Well,.. in the end..it works for me.[:)]

It is so silent here compared to the Advanced thread... i hope nobody is practising for this challenge ? [:-]
Anyways, i just got the notes down. The thumb parts are fun to play, but the middle part is still challenging for me.
I hope the video links will be published? To see how others played this falseta and to learn from that...

srshea -> RE: Flamenco-lessons.com turns 2 - A new challenge... (May 6 2009 16:12:43)

Are there any other lower level, pre-intermediate players out there who have taken a stab at this?

Sometime last month I spent a few hours, in two sittings, with the absolutely fantastic Detailed Explanation Video, and surprised myself by actually getting the notes and fingering down. That’s much more than I ever would have thought I would have been able to do, and I was feeling pretty good about myself. That is until I sat down and tried to play it in time along with the slowed vid and was rudely reminded just how over my head the falseta is. The syncopation in this sucker is over the freaking charts!

So, at this point I can play all the notes properly- slowly, and with an erratic but ballpark approach to rhythm, but nothing close to actual bulerias compas. Since getting the fingering down I haven’t spent any real, serious time trying to work on this properly, but in the remaining time left I do hope to give it the ol’ college try. I don’t think there’s any realistic hope that I’ll be able to play this properly, even at the slowed speed. Far more likely is that I’ll just end up grabbing short bits of it and repurposing them in an easier, simpler context.

Regardless of how far along I actually get towards playing this falseta properly, the time and work that I’ve put into it so far has made for a really good learning experience. Even that one afternoon spent with the detailed vid made for a great lesson in digging deep into something way beyond my current abilities and getting a sense of how things work on a higher, more sophisticated level, and if I had just left it at that one brief experiment, it still would have been worth it.

So, if there are any other pre-intermediate types out there who’ve been intimidated by this falseta and haven’t tried messing around with it at all, I strongly encourage you to give it a shot and at least try to fool around with it a bit. Spend a couple hours with that detailed explanation, and I guarantee that you and your playing will be the better for it. Besides which, it’s a lot of fun!

So, 2 days left? [:)]

rombsix -> RE: Flamenco-lessons.com turns 2 - A new challenge... (May 29 2009 1:22:39)

It's such a shame ... I won't be able to participate because of my final exams... It's been havoc I tell you! [:D]

Matic -> RE: Flamenco-lessons.com turns 2 - A new challenge... (May 29 2009 7:17:19)

Aaah.
I hope I will make it, I'm also spending these days revising for exams, my playing suffers big time.
It won't be perfect of that I'm sure, but since I learned it I might as well record it and get an expert opinion.

Who else is in??

JasonMcGuire -> RE: Flamenco-lessons.com turns 2 - A new challenge... (May 29 2009 7:26:42)

Yaelisa and I are in Dallas and our internet connection is a bit unpredictable. I am pushing the deadline back until Sunday, June, 7 12am PST. That gives everyone 6 extra days.

I will be announcing the winner here. Yaelisa will be commenting on the entries directly in YouTube via my screenname.... JasonMcGuireFlamenco.

Best of luck to all,

J

is the deadline tonight?

JasonMcGuire -> RE: Flamenco-lessons.com turns 2 - A new challenge... (Jun. 6 2009 16:54:53)

Tomorrow night. We will begin judging Monday morning.

Doitsujin -> RE: Flamenco-lessons.com turns 2 - A new challenge... (Jun. 6 2009 23:02:33)

I still didnt record because of much trouble... and I had to see startrek and terminator last week in the cinema..[&:] I´ll try to record today. Im happy to be in front of the american timezone.[:)]

rombsix -> RE: Flamenco-lessons.com turns 2 - A new challenge... (Jun. 7 2009 0:27:01)

Muchachos! I was TOOOOOO pressed on time! I got the falseta up to about 70% the original tempo, but I had too little time to go beyond that, or to record it. I assume the deadline has passed now... [:(]

No?

I set my computer time on Jason's PST. It's 1:49 am june 7th so we have more than 10 hrs left. I haven't recorded yet either. Well I did record a couple of tries but I still hope I can do better.

Edit: Wait... or does the 12am mean two hours ago????????????

rombsix -> RE: Flamenco-lessons.com turns 2 - A new challenge... (Jun. 7 2009 0:59:41)

Exactly Matic!

June 7 at 12 AM basically means the very last minute of the day they call "June 6." Which means it seems we've BOTH gotten beaten down! [:(]

Doitsujin -> RE: Flamenco-lessons.com turns 2 - A new challenge... (Jun. 7 2009 1:07:57)

Hey Matic,

could you tell me where is the mistake in your loop? I played the falseta along with the loop and it seems to work...

@rombsix

You still have time. America is a couple of hours behind us.. and here is still sunday.. So you really have time.. Record now and all is fine. [;)]

Ailsa -> RE: Flamenco-lessons.com turns 2 - A new challenge... (Jun. 7 2009 1:22:50)

Technically you are correct about the time Ramzi, but I think Jason's intention is that the deadline is midnight on Sunday night, his time. So you still have a few hours left.

Stop posting and get practising you guys!!
