when i joined this foro in 07 i spent many hours reading through old threads. i think i might have missed this one completely, but have read through it this week with interest.... would really like to actually the hear the audio that caused all the (10 pages of it) controversy.... i wonder if it still exists?

Of course.

Thirteen years have passed, flamenco has evolved...it's hard to imagine anyone not beating/feeling twos in bulerías

The binary revolution came and went in our town. People are still beating and shooting each other over quarter notes.

Word on the street is that Toddk, who lives close by, has since been recruited by a local renegade bike gang called the 12 o'clock boys. They are fundamentalist who believe Bulerias is still felt in 12's or 6's. Worse yet they found out he used to play with a pick and handed him over to the gitanos.

My post to this seems to have been lost during the forum outage so I'll say again..

Thanks for posting this! I collect these clips of Todd's old tech and didn't have this one.

Interesting that 15 or so years ago this video would have caused a huge fuss. Many new people have joined since those days who are probably completely unaware of all that history and yet no one has batted an eyelid. Perhaps folk are more tolerant of unconventional tech these days, or perhaps the Foro lacks the more 'vocal' personalities it once had...

Piwin -> RE: 2s in bulerias examples (Oct. 30 2017 9:18:09)

I'm one of those that was unaware of all this.

I don't think I could have guessed he was playing with a pick with just the audio (actually, I'm sure of it) so not sure why there was any fuss about it (except in a good way: it is pretty amazing)
Andy does his tremolos backwards. Now THAT's shocking! [:D][8D]

Not sure what all the talk about 2s, 3s or 17.5s is either.
Ever play 16th notes at 100bpm when everyone else was playing 8th notes at 200bpm? Or even 3/4 when everyone else was playing 6/8?
It might create some additional tension in the overall groove of the piece (especially the latter example), but it's definitely not enough to say anything was in or out of the groove.
Feeling it in 2s is about as important as not playing with a pick. So apparently not important at all.

I wonder what Todd thinks of it all now...?

curious also that the title of the thread changes around page 6 from "Todd's latest Buleria" to "2s in bulerias examples"....

Quite a fuss over nothing. [:D]

You should clearly be crucified for being good enough to fool everyone into thinking a pick was your own thumb. Roman soldiers rocking and rolling to your compas while they spike you to a giant wooden bull.

I think this is the first foroflamenco post, 14 years ago on 11 July 2003?
