Ailsa -> RE: Challenge, Advanced Thread - more judges? (May 31 2009 1:24:53)

OK people I got three entries now! And of course I had to listen through to them all to make sure they had arrived safely. [;)][:D]

rombsix -> RE: Challenge, Advanced Thread - more judges? (May 31 2009 1:54:06)

Hey peeps!

After the challenge is over, can we try to have VIDEO, rather than only audio, uploads by the participants? If not all of them, at least that ones that can do so. Or maybe the winners?

Gracias! [:D]

xirdneH_imiJ -> RE: Challenge, Advanced Thread - more judges? (May 31 2009 6:41:01)

i'm glad we have an extra day since it's holiday tomorrow so i'll have time to try and re-record what i've done...so dissatisfied with all of my tries, i just can't get through the piece without mistakes, independently i have no problem with the parts, but when trying to play the whole thing together it becomes a mess...and it's too damn fast...:)

Doitsujin -> RE: Challenge, Advanced Thread - more judges? (May 31 2009 11:27:19)

I also finished today. I will send Ailsa my mp3 after I get back from the blockbuster! I need to see Transporter 3 this evening. [:)]

Yes, videos are highly welcome. I´ll upload a video to the mp3 I have send in, after the judging deadline. I never thought I would upload something to youtube... but now I have to upload the bulerias for Jasons challenge and this alegrias. [&:]

I also didn't come through without any weak points.. Well,..but I need to switch to the bulerias now because its not much time left and I didnt practiced hard enough for that.

xirdneH_imiJ -> RE: Challenge, Advanced Thread - more judges? (May 31 2009 12:41:07)

i've finished, decided not to wait until tomorrow...well, it sucks :) - but then everyone will know it's me and they'll go easy on me :)
the biggest mistake i made was right at the start, the sampling rate was 10000 something had to convert it when i was nearly finished, then i tried to change some levels and i inserted a millisecond of silence into my own playing...great...that happens when you start to mess around with something and you have no experience with recording...
but i managed to add some light effect that covers some of my mistakes :)
anyway, it's been a challenge learning and recording this piece, i enjoyed it a lot!

ok-ok, no excuses :)

Well, where is it then? [:D][:D] I'm waiting!!

xirdneH_imiJ -> RE: Challenge, Advanced Thread - more judges? (May 31 2009 13:10:20)

it left my mailbox about 6 minutes ago :)

marrow3 -> RE: Challenge, Advanced Thread - more judges? (May 31 2009 13:15:51)

This has been a quite a challenge for me also. I intended to finish today but I ended up using a laptop for both playing the rhythm and recording so the record quality is a bit #*&$. If we have tomorrow as well I'm gonna try bringing a web cam from work.

I did try playing the rhythm through headphones and merging the tracks but the uneven stretching (why does that happen? maybe I'm doing something wrong) of recorded guitar track made alignment impossible.
Frustration.

Doitsujin -> RE: Challenge, Advanced Thread - more judges? (May 31 2009 13:55:42)

I just send mine.

I must say,... I was a bit nervous hitting the send button. [:D] I hope you enjoy it and of course tell me honestly my weak points.

Good luck to everybody. You hopefully get the mp3s-done. And if possible, grab your playing on cam. [;)] That would be the most interesting thing after the challenge!

Arash -> RE: Challenge, Advanced Thread - more judges? (May 31 2009 16:15:30)

No more excuses or explanations about the recordings, sampling and such stuff.

This is advanced challenge thread and we Judges will judge as if we are Tomatito himself on a bad day with a bad mood.

[:D][:D][;)] j/k

Already have 6 entries. You guys should be proud of yourselves, you've work hard on this.

Doitsujin -> RE: Challenge, Advanced Thread - more judges? (Jun. 1 2009 12:56:39)

2 hours left...

Ailsa -> RE: Challenge, Advanced Thread - more judges? (Jun. 1 2009 15:29:20)

Seven entries posted on a separate thread. I'm going to bed now, but if there are any problems PM me - I'll be up again in 6 hours, and I'll try to put them right.

This is quite nervewracking for me too - I feel such a responsibility not to mix them up or give away which fruit name belongs to which player!!

edgar884 -> RE: Challenge, Advanced Thread (Jun. 1 2009 16:20:57)

I think I know who everyone is. ha hahahahahaaaa.

I am so impressed.

Great idea Doit and thanks to you Ailsa.[:D]Jason, Anders, and all the judges.
And anyone else for doin this. Makes me want to do a Paco challenge hehehehahahaa. So I could learn more than one falsetta of his.

Good way to get us off our ass and do some hard work, I think we all have grown tremendously from this.

Thanks[:D]

Florian -> RE: Challenge, Advanced Thread (Jun. 1 2009 17:02:14)

i think i know who was in the last audio [:)]

ToddK -> RE: Challenge, Advanced Thread - more judges? (Jun. 1 2009 17:20:03)

Everybody sounds GREAT! This was such a great idea, because it really
pushed everyone to really put some focused hours of practice in, that we
probably wouldnt have put in normally.

And hey, ya gotta admit, its alot more fun to do these contests than it is
just sitting around talking about strings and nails all the time [8D][:D]

Great job everybody! OLE'!

Ron.M -> RE: Challenge, Advanced Thread - more judges? (Jun. 2 2009 4:39:12)

Ailsa/Doit,

Do we give points according to the usual format:

Rhythm
Technique
Aire

or just an overall score out of 30 for each entry with some short notes on our impression?

It feels to me that the players are way too advanced to judge on things like compás/rhythm and technique etc and I feel I'm really swayed more by the general feeling and style the specific player puts on the piece, just as I may prefer one pro player's playing a bit more than anothers due to personal taste.

EDIT: In fact, having heard all the enties twice, I'm just blown away and it would feel just like comparing Gerardo's RTA to Vicente's RTA which is just nonsense.

I feel I can only give an overall score on how much I like/prefer the playing style and interpretation of each one.

In fact, I love them all so much that I'm gonna need a while even to consider which one I like better than another! [:D]

cheers,

Ron

HolyEvil -> RE: Challenge, Advanced Thread - more judges? (Jun. 2 2009 4:54:07)

i hate u guys!!!
I wish I can play like this.. and I'm only on the 1st audio...

Thank you for refining the approach, Ron. I had a preliminary session last night listening to the 7 files, and I agree that they need be judged on quite a different measure.

These are examples of fine musicianship, indeed. So well performed, each adding its own characteristic style, each developing a well thought and deliberately distinctive interpretation, each confidently and persuasively delivered .

While listening to these, i could artciculate no more than a series of excited "wow"... wonderfully done!!!

BTW.... is Florian in the race, after all?

Doitsujin -> RE: Challenge, Advanced Thread - more judges? (Jun. 2 2009 7:48:53)

I had the same thought after hearing the audios. All the players are technically skilled and should only be judged on this by players with equal or a higher level.. Well,.. above a certain point, technics should not be judged.. They all have aire, there is no doubt,. different aire. That means the piece is played under different viewpoints. Some play more melodic and others more powerfull and others more dark. Its like judging on what you like more "left or right" or black or white.
I think all the challengers are winners. But because we have prices,.. we need to find a winner.

So let us reduce the judging to a very crude overall rating of (EDIT: 30) points maximum. Just one criteria to bring us somehow in an order. Very subjective, but the only way.
And dont be miserly! ;.)

You can comment on your scoring. But to the judges, please think individually. Dont orientate on the ratings of other judges. Just listen and give points how you think the players should be rated. And remember equal sqores are also fine.

I try to infor all the judges if they dont see my post.

Florian -> RE: Challenge, Advanced Thread - more judges? (Jun. 2 2009 7:50:19)

i am not in this i am just spectating :-)...greate entries

i cant wait to hear em on my proper stero atm i am hearing it though my monitor speakers..my pc is at the compter shop..

Arash -> RE: Challenge, Advanced Thread - more judges? (Jun. 2 2009 7:50:44)

well i have already judged acc. to the previous method
and i wanted to be the first one, so that i am not influenced by reading other judges entries
