and to record against it will require some tricky cut and paste job I guess (doesn't end and start on the same beat) Any thoughts on this guys???

thats pertty eazy to do just loop it ..in a program like cool edit or something..add however many compases more u need, u can line it up so that it continues perfectly..or I can add the same loop longher..i sliced some of it because when i uploaded it i was on 56k

let me know if u have the means loop it or want me to upload a longher version

duende -> RE: Challenge, Advanced Thread - more judges? (May 7 2009 11:44:54)

I just took the 172bpm loop and did a "cut and past"and made it even.

[:D] Well,... its a loop.. Could you upload the longer version of this loop for us? I am not good in such constructions... I have the same problem as Ricardo. [;)]

I am extremely occupied for the next 10 days..maybe I cant write here for this period. If there is any need for a longer loopversion during the last week of practice, I could help you out. But not earlier.

duende -> RE: Challenge, Advanced Thread - more judges? (May 7 2009 22:41:09)

Heres a loop at 172.

ToddK -> RE: Challenge, Advanced Thread - more judges? (May 8 2009 19:31:37)

Just wanted to report, the loop marked "164 bpm" is actually 166 bpm.

Set your tempo map in your audio software for 166, and it will sound more
even.
If you set it for 164, and try to cut/copy it to be longer, you'll hear a slight stutter. If you have time compression/expansion, you could of course process the loop to play at
164 bpm. Thats a bit more complicated though, for the audio software beginners.

Best of luck to everybody!

TK

Doitsujin -> RE: Challenge, Advanced Thread - more judges? (May 9 2009 8:12:24)

Thanks Todd. I didnt notice that.. But I will play the loop loudly in the room while playing along for the record..So it doesnt change anything for me.

Well,..dont forget... whoever slows the loop down.. is out.

IMPORTANT:

@ Challengers:

I had to delete my hotmail-account because someone hacked it and used it for spam. If you have any questions to the challenge please contact me only through PM, or contact Ailsa.

I am sorry for everybody who got this strange spam from my account.

Ailsa -> RE: Challenge, Advanced Thread - more judges? (May 21 2009 9:22:07)

Just 10 days to go!!

I sure am looking forward to hearing your entries. Please send your mp3s to me at:

flamencoguitarcourse@yahoo.co.uk

and don't forget to choose what fruit you want to be [:D]

HemeolaMan -> RE: Challenge, Advanced Thread - more judges? (May 23 2009 21:16:54)

I think geometric shapes works better than names of fruits.

I usually give people shape names when I judge other things (I'm the music editor for a magazine) that way its harder to pick favorites.

Some people like oranges alot more than apples, but its usually not that big a differente between squares and circles

Doitsujin -> RE: Challenge, Advanced Thread - more judges? (May 23 2009 22:04:56)

I will send my mp3 at the 31st..... Just in time. Deadline is Ailsas timezone 12pm.
Man,... I'm curious about who actually record an audio. I have the feeling that we will hear really good playing.

To the names,...let us stick to the fruits... You are right with the personal taste of everyone... But its ok I think.

edgar884 -> RE: Challenge, Advanced Thread - more judges? (May 25 2009 10:42:15)

well I sent mine in, best of luck fellas.[:D]

Can't wait to hear all the entries.[:D]

Right..

Maybe that's why some folk in the '50s were called "squares"and not "pears" ?

Mind you they still make square crisps...[:-]

"Pringles" are round though...

But then again, they're French...

Och...too complicated for me to consider ATM.

I'll have to think about it for a few days Hem and get back t' ya.

cheers,

Ron

Anders Eliasson -> RE: Challenge, Advanced Thread - more judges? (May 27 2009 8:30:33)

I´ve made the Cejilla the winner will receive. I hope you like it

There´s a photo here:

Doitsujin -> RE: Challenge, Advanced Thread - more judges? (May 27 2009 10:43:53)

Thats a great cejilla Anders! I didnt use traditional cejillas till now because I thought they block some movements of the left hand, but if I get it I will only use that cejilla till it gets so old and used that it falls of the guitar!

Man,.. I can´t wait for the audios! Its so amazing!!

I will send PMs to the judges this evening or tomorrow during the day. It will include a link to this post here that includes the date for the judging deadline.

Ailsa will collect the audios till this sunday 12pm Great Britain time. And she will upload the audios hopefully on monday to tuesday. If she has any problems I think I´ll help her with that.

Because its a long piece... 1 week for judging should be a good choose. And to include the weekend if anybody is occupied during the working days, let us set the judging deadline to the 7th of june but with Ailsas time-zone. Great Britain has only one time-zone right?

Than Ailsa will prepare a summary-post. It will include the official calculation of the points, the fruits names together with the forum nicknames and the official winner(s) as well as the officially disqualified defrauders. This post will be posted till tuesday the 9th of June.

To summarize :

1) deadline for sending Ailsa the audio is 31th of May, 12pm time-zone Great Britain

2) The audios will be uploaded during June the 1st till the 2nd

3) Judging deadline is till June the 7th, 12pm time-zone of Great Britain
(I think the only deadline that should be exact is the "sending the audios to Ailsa" If our american members are late with judging, I think we can wait till the next morning "June the 8th". But please try to be in time, it will be smoother)

4) Any decisions "e.g.winners and calculations of any given points" will be posted with one final post by Ailsa till June the 9th

4b) To the decision if any audio would be disqualified: Ailsa will only upload mp3s as it is written in the rules.
Any audios in mp3-format will be uploaded if there is no rule very obviously broken.
We will all together check the audios for any disqualifying issues during the judging time.
If any audio gets disqualified, will be written down together with the "official" calculation of the points and the nomination of the winner(s).
Only the summary and nomination published by Ailsa will declare the official winner(s) and defrauders, no matter if somebody is faster. We want to prepare a tiny ceremony-post.
So, Ailsa is the only member who can declare anybody for disqualified with one exception: Because I am the host, I will discuss these candidates with Ailsa and I have a veto in case of any problems (excluding judging on myself). But I´m pretty sure nobody will be disqualified and this long explanation is becoming useless! ;.)

Man... I think its really a german thing to try to include any possibility.... [&:] I hope that was not too long....

Lets go for the last couple of days!! Oley! [:)]

Yeah Doit,

I think so too...
And try to be really exacting about stuff.

I have a German friend, Hans, who is retired now and lives in Scotland.

He has lived in Australia for many years and in various other countries too.

He always goes travelling every summer and visits Germany every couple of years.
He always comes back laughing and telling me about the latest local bylaws that are being enforced in Germany and how they are eagerly taken up and supported by the public.

He always says "The German public LOVE rules...from not dropping a bus ticket in the street to not farting in public.."or else you vill be punished" [:D]

Another one that makes me laugh is the old TV program "Allo, Allo", where Herr Flikk, the Gestapo Officer says to a lady junior discussing a possible solution to a problem....

"I like ziss idea....come to my office tomorrow morning at 10am...Do NOT be late".

"Oh..Herr Flikk...", she says, "Certainly not... I will be early".

"NO", says Herr Flikk,

"You shall be neither.....

you shall be PUNCTUAL!" [:D][:D]

cheers,

Ron

Doitsujin -> RE: Challenge, Advanced Thread - more judges? (May 29 2009 13:49:15)

This alegria really made me respecting tomatito a loooot more.. This alegria is so hard.. and tomatito plays it live perfectly.. Thats amazing.

I got a PM that somebody thought the deadline is june 1st meaning the 1st is included. When thinking twice, this person is right. Normally I would say,..bad luck for this person, but because it would be unfair to steal the last day, I set the deadline to june the 1st 12pm Great Britain time.

Ailsa if you have any problems uploading the files please tell me. I will help you uploading the files.

Sorry for this mistake....

Good luck to all challengers for the last days!

Well, I got some nice PMs that the challenge really made some people practising very hard and they got a lot better due to that. I think the challenge fulfilled its job for these people already even without sending any audios yet. I makes me happy that the challenge has a use!

ToddK -> RE: Challenge, Advanced Thread - more judges? (May 29 2009 13:51:10)

BRAVO Doit!!! This was a great idea, and you''re doing a great job!!

THANK YOU!!

Thanks for your offer of help Doit - hope I'll manage to upload them all OK but if I have problems I'll let you know.

ToddK -> RE: Challenge, Advanced Thread - more judges? (May 30 2009 22:28:46)

Hey Ailsa,

Thats cool that we have until monday, but im already done with my recording
Thank God!! Whew, that was a tough one!

I'll be sending you my entry tonite or tomorrow. Can i send it attached to

TK

Ailsa -> RE: Challenge, Advanced Thread - more judges? (May 31 2009 0:18:38)

Hey Todd,

As far as we know I'm expecting 10, but you know how it is - recording is tough, so maybe not everyone will manage it.

Yes you can send it as an attachment - the yahoo address I'm using can accept attachments. I'll confirm when I've got it so you know it's safe.

Send it now! Send it now! I wanna hear it [:D][:D]
