Hi Errol,

Patrick from this foro ownes a negra and raves about it. I'm sure he'll fill you in on the details.

As far as price, they cost about an arm and a leg.

Errol,

As Tom said, I own a Tezanos Perez negra.

As you are likely aware, both Tezanos and Perez were journeymen in the Ramirez shop for many years. Tezanos father also was with Ramirez. About ten years or so ago they left Ramirez to set up shop on their own. I have only seen and played the one I have, so I am speaking from limited experience.

Here are a couple of link you may what to look at.

Mine is a Concierto Brazilian. They make two models of flamencos, the Madrid and Concierto. The Concierto being the top of the line. Mine is a true concert level, world-class guitar. The tonal qualities are more on the contemporary side. If you are after a hard edge, in your face guitar, this isn't it.

When I got it about five months ago, the basses were good, but not exceptional. They have really opened up in the last month or so. The most impressive aspect of this guitar is the exceptional mids and trebles without one overpowering the other. Note separation is also excellent, which most people don’t talk about, but you will always hear it in a top quality guitar.

This guitar can be played just about anyway you want. You can drive it hard or back off and let it shine. It has excellent volume with beautiful sustain. The workmanship is immaculate. The only negative is an action that’s a bit higher than I like. I lowered it when I got it, but it lost some tonal qualities so I raised it. I am used to it now, so it doesn’t bother me any more.

It’s hard to find many TP in the US as most all of them go to Japan. In Japan these guys are folk heroes.

It would be tough to find a guitar much better, although I’m still looking!

Patrick,
Do you have the address and phone number of their Madrid workshop?

You can glean their website from their email address:

I've seen and heard Patrick's negra. It's an incredible guitar.

Downing,

Interesting picture on the Tezanos website. It looks like they have a very nice shop. What's interesting is the three other fellows in the picture. We all want to believe that only the master built our guitar, when in reality many builders in Spain have help to do the more mundane aspects. In fact many builders in Spain don't even finish their own guitars.

I guess that's one reason I am moving more and more to US builders, as I know exactly what I am getting. Lester DeVoe told me that outsourcing and the use of manufactures in Spain has been going on for years, but is just coming to the forefront.

So man, I had a good time the other day. I hope you didn't get too overwhelmed. I started to see your eyes glaze over a bit with information overload. I was thinking I would do some recordings of the stuff we covered and I'll send them to you. I advise you work on them and we should get back together in a month or two.

Hey Patrick, that was great! You're right about information overload. At one point, I felt like my gray matter was beginning to run out my ears.

Let's definitely get together again in a couple of months.

one-two-THREE-four-five-SIX-seven-EIGHT-nine-TEN-eleven-TWELVE!

I was doing that all the way home.

Cool. Now I would advise you try to do the same to a Solea off a CD. I would stay away from the more contemporary stuff, as it can be very hard to follow the counts. Sabicas is great to learn the counts.

Tom,

I saw it as well. It's identical to mine other than being a 2003.

Tom,

By the way are you having to travel by boat? I understand the rain gods are not happy with Texas.

I can't complain Pat. It keeps the grass green and keeps me from having to water the lawn

On the flip side, the humidity is terrible and makes it hard to spend a day at the golf course. Plus, I have to monitor the humidity for the guitars. Haven't had to use a de-humidifier yet.
