You know, why is it that every time I hear a new palo, I fall down thinking how nice it sounds, again? Why is that? I need therapy, bad!! Anyway, Juan Serrano has a beautiful zambra called 'Fantasy' that I have just began working on, and I'll tell you, it is the most beautiful music!! It will be a little more than I can handle, but, I will take all the easy measures that I can learn and make me a baby zambra! (of course I will maintain the compas)! ;>) Can anyone give me any tips/suggestions/history of playing a zambra? I know remember a Sabicas CD that I have that has a zambra on it, but, I did not realize that I have the tabs for one right in front of me! OK, back to practice (the zambra)... ;>) Merle

Merle, That's a nice piece and will be fun to work on. I learned it directly from Juan Serrano, and I'm quite familiar with it Listen to it closely and start with working out the parts that really appeal to you. But make sure you first learn the intro, as it sets the mood for the piece. Though it is notated in 4/4 and 3/4 time, it is actually played kinda freestyle. The tempo of the rest of the piece is somewhere between a Tientos and a Tangos, it is notated in 4/4 for ease of reading, but 'marked' in 2/4 timing. If there is any palo that this concept is important, this is the one. And I'm sure you're aware of the 'D' tuning. Hope you're having fun with it
