Morón - Jerez1 votes

There are several Morón falsetas on recordings of Jerez guitarists like Manuel Morao, El Poeta and Paco Cepero. Here's the URL:

http://www.ctv.es/USERS/norman/moron.htm

These recordings indicate a possible influence of Morón and Diego del Gastor on other guitarists. Also, there are a couple of anecdotes in Pohren's books about Ricardo and Sabicas going to Morón separately to meet Diego, so I don't think it's right to say that he was an unknown or that he was not influential. Some very good recordings of Diego were released a few years ago on a double-CD and booklet of Fernanda y Bernarda (black and orange cover), but I suspect it's no longer available.

Norman.. you keep churning out really nice material, very accurate notation and all. Thanks a lot! I'm learning some things from your fandangos falsetas collection and I think I'll let my thumb have a workout with some moron stuff too. :)

Hey norman, I am with you on that influence thing too. But also, don't forget that Diego did his versions of Javier Molina falsetas (supposed origins of jerez guitar style) , and Ramon Montoya too. So, it is a bit of a closed circle there in terms of influences. For me moron style or jerez style is more than just the notes of the falseta...hope you get what I mean. It is a subtle treatment, but recognizable difference in the end.

Ricardo

On a very early recording we recently listened to at the Caminos del Cante radio program, we were surprised to hear a so-called "Morón" falseta.

Clearly, there was a repertoire circulating that Diego and others picked up on, and a certain "attack" (pulsación) was common to the era's guitarists.

Thank you Norman!
