"....Gerardo Nuñez. Absolutely one of the best guitarists in the Universe."
This made me chuckle. I clicked on the forum banner for the Gerardo Nuñez concert in Pittsburgh to find that Gerardo is not just one of the best guitaists in the world...but in the Universe.
Thats quite a claim when you compare him to 22 fingered Zlonkpeeeperburburbleclick click in the theta quadrant!

Ha ha! But you know, it would be a 1 in a gazzillion chance that if life existed elsewhere in the galaxy or universe at large, that something even like a guitar evolved as a music instrument. So I think it is safe to say here on earth we do have the "best guitarists" in the universe! I am sure the music could evolve as an artform however....
The only thing is, Paco de Lucia is the best guitarist. IMO.

Maybe it's because advanced alien life-forms choose not to play guitar. Perhaps they prefer a more subtle instrument that appeals to their large craniums.

I wonder who wrote this. Promotional materials like this are often provided by the artist.
Seems odd the venue isn't sold out with less than a week to go. I saw a flyer in PDF format on FT, but nowhere else--not even the GSFA site. GSFA doesn't seem to be the most organized group of people...

I can't go, (I have to play for La Tati! LOL) but I know the venue. It is not real big, it is pretty intimate. If plan on going I would get your ticket now. GSFA is pretty good at organizing and advertising, and connected with Duquesne univeristy. They just need to sell enough to get it all paid for. I think you can get on their mailing list and get updated quicker regarding flamenco stuff going on. I go up to pittsburgh pretty often, but usually don't advertise myself! LOL.
EDIT
Ooops just noticed this concert is to be in Bellefield hall, not sure if I know that venue, it could be pretty big....

I recently read a review of a production of Blood Wedding in Liverpool - with Juan Martin playing. He was described as 'the best guitarist of his generation' - presumably in the universe. Any 65 year old Martian guitarists who want to challenge this? Rob

Dont knock it u guys dont understand the kind of pressure we are under
I am the best flamenco guitarist in the cosmos that was born on the 5th of october 1975 from Romania and living in Angle Park/ Adelaide/ Australia ATM...named florian

Whereas Señor Martin has promoted himself over the years as "one of the top 3 guitarists in the world" or "the best guitarist of his generation", I find it highly unlikely that Gerardo would promote himself as "best guitarist in the universe" - he is surprisingly modest.
One in a gazillion sounds like good odds to me. If we assume the universe is expanding at the speed of light, that provides a pretty large number of solar systems, many with planets containing liquid water...therefore beer...therefore flamenco...therefore great guitarists!!!
RE: Best guitarist in the universe? (in reply to Pimientito)
true i cant really imagine Gerardo saying something like that...besides dosent it say "one of the best "? leaves room for interpretation noone is looking to pi*s E.T. off ..thats how intergalactic wars get started...JM says something then ET says something next thing u know theres green bullets flying around

Other than a few blank pages there's very little promotional information on GSFA's website, email to GSFA disappears into the oblivion of cyberspace and a search of their site last night turned up a list of "Guitar Events" from 2005 to 2006.
I can't agree that they are very good at advertising and promotion. BTW it doesn't take a lot of effort to fill the Gypsy Cafe...

hmm, maybe YOU should be the promoter of flamenco events then, in Pittsburgh?
Maybe. I think if an organization like GSFA goes to all the trouble of securing a venue and paying an artist to perform they should put a little more effort into promoting the event. They are really only hurting their own business.

They asked me for advertising space for this a couple of weeks back, but it got lost in my rubbish emails. I am hosting this banner for free to make it up to them (and Gerardo).
RE: Best guitarist in the universe? (in reply to Florian)
The most ridiculous part is saying "Absolutely one of..." - he's either absolutely the best, or one of the best.
Anyway, if that's the way it must be done these days, then I believe that Florian is "Absolutely one of the best flamenco guitarist in the cosmos that was born on the 5th of october 1975 from Romania and living in Angle Park/ Adelaide/ Australia ATM...named florian"
and...

Ok... and who is the coolest guy in the universe? hehe...
Oh man, that dude is absolutely The coolest guy in Krefeld, not just "one of" (I think he even said he's the only one...)

Thats like when newsreaders say "almost exactly a year ago" Its either almost a year or exactly a year but cant be both! I remember going into a shop in the Albaicin and paying for a drink with change from my pocket. I counted out the coins and put them on the counter. "Is that correct?" I asked "Just barely" the shop keeper replied
