I want to start practicing for live performances for in the future, i need to know if this Laney Acoustic Amp will do the job for live performances like In Restuarants, pubs, on balconies ect.. Laney LA65LC Acoustic Guitar Amp Combo 65W http://www.muz.co.za/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=906 Can you guys check out the specs and maybe tell me?
My budget is around 500$ and the amp costs 400$ just want to know if it will work for now and upgrade in the future. Just want to make it future proof.
I dont like the idea of a mic setup because it causes feedback in smaller places and its much more expensive.
Any advice would be much appreciated thx in advance.

We're not ignoring you Reinhardt, just that those of us with the time don't know the answer (like me!), and the guys that know about amps and stuff are busy.
You could try cross posting in the recording advice section - I know your question is about amplification but that section also covers mics, amps etc.

Hey sorry, it's sad when noone replies to yer thread, i'll give you what i got.
I don't know about this Lanye amp, i have an AER acoustic compact 60 amp. I was recommended something else that i can't remember the name of now, something that apparently "everyone" uses that has phantom power for mikes but no reverb.
I heard another guy using the one i've got playing for dance class and it sounded better than the one i was originally recommended.... the AER has no phantom power but has reverb, and it was more expensive. I was told mine would be more prone to feedback than the other one, but it's ok. They do a range.
If i remember the other one i was recommended first i'll post it up.
You owe me a reply now, post something about "non standard keys in standard tuning" in my thread....

I don't own this amp. I have the Roland AC60 and the VOX DA5. The only persons who own and play with this Laney amp can have accurate inputs about it. And also the sound preferrence is varied from person to person. IMO, miking a flamenco guitar would be better than having a tranducer. But then you have to deal with feedback problem. Playing in a noisy retaurant i don't thing the sound quality is a high priority. You probably better off using the line to the amp. IMO, the ideal amp for flamenco guitar is the the one would reproduce the sound without any variation (no reverb, no chorus, no thing). Most amp tends to support steel string guitar (referred as acoustic guitar) where the strong market is.
The Laney LA65LC spec: - does not show any phantom power. That is a NO for me on a $500 amp. You will need to mike your guitar with a condenser mike at time in an intimate environment and most condenser mike need phantome pwr. - weight 17kb (37lbs) that's heavy, if you move it around. Most the amp this size weighs about 10kg (22 lbs). That's how heavy the Roland AC60 is. - the wattage (i.e. 65w) is just a referrence figure. You will mostly use half of it without getting sound distortion.

Hi thx for the advice guys,
The Laney Amp i want to buy is $400 not $500, and what does "phantom power" mean and why would i need to mic my guitar? I would probly in the future just buy speakers to go with the amp.
and another thing, i kinda like the delay sound that the reverb option produce, i dont know about you, but then again the strumming sounds abit to clear sometimes.

AER do a portable one for busking that's smaller than mine and runs off a battery, but mine's not that one! and mine cost a lot less than a grand, like half that.

You need a way to get the signal to your amp. If you don't have an internal pickup, then you'll need to mic your guitar

Phantom power is what some mics use to power mics that require it. There are some condenser mics that have built in phantom power via a 9v batter aka. AKG CS1000. Barring that, if you have a condenser that requires phantom power, you'll have to buy an amp that provides it, or supply it via preamp etc.
It seems like you would benefit from reading the recording tutorial that a couple of our members (Patrick and Thomas Whitley) worked on a few years ago. I think it's still floating around.
Would also like to say, that the original question is a bit difficult to answer, especially if one is lacking direct experience with that particular amp. A couple of other factors that anyone answering will need to know is the size of venue, is it indoors/outdoors, whether there's background noise, what kind of guitar, does it have a pickup, what kind of mic you going to use if no pickup, what kind of music you plan to mainly play, etc. There are so many factors to consider.

I have a yamaha classical guitar with hard tension strings and it has a build in non - powered battery pickup. I havnt seen any flamenco guitar down here in South Africa and i asked alot of guitar shops.
Im mostly going to play indoors, outside of bars for parties not to big, special events like in a hall and on bussy corners if i feel like it
