I am thinking about going to Sanlucar next year but my Spanish really sucks (my English sucks too but it's still better than my Spanish ). I am starting to take Spanish 1 (there are 4 courses all together - 2 months each and I am planning to take all 4) at a local college this week but still not sure if that would be enough..

Should be fine once you are in sanlcuar. Only thing to worry about is the traveling getting there. You have to be able to talk to the cab drivers a little!

Man, no need to worry!
I have never taken any serious Spanish class or anything, I only know some words I picked up from listening to cante. It was the problem at first because they don't sing about ordering the food and stuff (how I love my mother was of no use ) but you can get along with body language if you really run out of words. As Ricardo said, once you meet with others in Sanlucar, you're safe. I didn't have any troubles anywhere else either, I flew to Sevilla and took the bus to Sanlucar (without any problems!) So, no need to worry.
The classes are in Spanish. Gerardo doesn't (want to) speak english Which, again, is no reason to worry because all you really need to know are these phrases: ahora mas despasito Y UN DOS tres... por ejemplo - dedo medio... y ahora tu! (then you have to play unplayable never-heard-before Gerardo's falseta in front of all students)

Ricardo, Can you tell me, is it OK to argue with Gerardo about his lessons, particularly about him doing things his way when it may not be right for you?
Or does he not tolerate that? The reason I'm asking is in connection with a friend of mine to whom I suggested the course and I don't want him to end up getting nailed to the floorboards due to a silly misunderstanding.

Man, it would be great to make it to Sanlucar. Not only for the lessons (etc.), but just to get to meet some of you guys.
Not so worried about my Spanish, but my guitar playing on the other hand.
Get a DVD/Movie in Spanish w/ English subtitles. Or, read a newspaper in Spanish. These two have done more for me than the 2 years of Spanish I took in school.

You got it right on.... He also says "como era...como era la falseta?" quite a lot The other annoying phrase is "sin embargo...la tecnica muy facil...el mano derecho siempre igual.." This is just before demonstrating an impossible phrase at superhuman speed.
The guys are right. you need enough spanish to get to Sanlucar and check into your hotel. After that there are enough friendly helpful people there so that you dont need to worry. Saying that...if you are into flamenco its a good idea to learn some Spanish anyway
