News from the workshop

Hi folks

I have started french polishing myself (again)
I had some problems with my polisher and so I decided to do it myself. I like to maintain control and FP is and important part of that.

This means that I will no longer be able to deliver colored guitars. This because I do "real" French Polish with a pad (muñeca) all the way through. The colored guitars were having the color sprayed on, and it was actually one of the problems.

I personally dont care. I prefer natural colored guitars. I´m a woody and like the natural looks of wood. I dont need colors to make them look better in my own eyes.

Here you can see one of my last creations:

http://www.eliassonguitars.com/BlancaFP.htm

BTW: I was acused yesterday of only being on the foro in order to show off and sell guitars, so I decided, that maybe I should be more agressive with promoting myself.

Sweet, I like plain wood myself.

And is that Titan paint from Coviran on the steps?

So you should, it's called marketing and all luthiers are welcome to do the same here.

Well Anders, you should know by now that the foro is for showing off, not showing off guitars!
Personally I think the foro would be a poorer place without luthiers

The ebony tuning buttons are a very nice touch on that guitar, with its dark binding and back strip. Very lovely work! Can't wait to see what's in queue in the shop...

I like this look, too. Most guitars do not have a natural look of wood due to the color imparted by lacquer, etc.

Hey, thanks for the nice words.

I´m glad you like natural, because thats what I´m capable of producing.

Simon, the paint is Antigotera from the local hardware store (ferreteria) I had some problems with water seeping into the wall from the staircase. (boring stuff)

Hi, Anders!

I really like your instruments. I played Henry's blanca in Sanlucar and almost decided that my next instrument would be one of your guitars. Well, in a few years...

Congrats on your work!

Anders, do you think it will make a difference financially?
I really like the extreme orange and red colors. Its kind of an eye catcher and a sign that says "this is a flamenco guitar" of course white guitars also, but they look more "neutral" to me.

I'm first :-). I'm "already" halfway the budget. But don't be confused the other half might take me another year saving. But who needs to save for a car, a house, food when you can buy an Anders for only 2800 :-). A man needs to know his priorities.

What does a driver's license cost in Sweden? It's about $25 USD in my state.

In Belgium, the paper - license itself 15€. The exam and the lessons you have to take to succeed : 1000€ +/-. There are cheaper ways, but this one is the most common.

So a drivers license cost 1/3 Anders.

Henry,
Yes its your guitars twinny. I´m looking forward to the upload. Have you tested other strings?

Deniz, yes maybe it will influence my financial situation, I´ve already had one possible client who said now because he couldn´t get an orange Blanca, on the other hand, ask Manuel Reyes if he can make you an orange guitar.... He´ll probably think you are crazy.

Henrik. Yes these are ebony buttons. They cost a little extra. You can actually change the buttons on your tuners to these, but I dont know where to buy them.
I will put wooden buttons on your negra when time comes. Looking forward to building it.

Drivers licens are extremely expensive in Scandinavia...

Hell Drivers licens are becoming sort of a "upper class" thingin the future im shure.
i paid around 25.000 swe kr

2596 EUR or 3800usd and i went for a cheap school.
I should have taken it when i was 18 and it would have cost like 10000swe kr

and the prices are going up and up and up

Doesn't the government want people to drive; is it a consequence of socialism? Why the big expense?

driving schools are private here and THEY wants to make money and it works cause people wants a licens.

also they are very picky. you have lots of levels you have to "master" before they alow you to do a test drive.

Normally I'm not to fond of state intervention. I'm for free and transparant markets, as long as some social principles are respected. But this is an exemple where the state should intervine. If having a driver's license is only doable for the rich, the "poor" get cut of from a certain way of transport and thus from some jobs. But I wouldn't be surprised if it had something to do with enviremental issues.
By not funding these private schools, or restricting there price they can reduce the number of driver's on the road. Just my 2cents. :-)

In the UK, you just pay a spiv £100 and he sits the test for you.
(Or so I've heard).
It cuts out the middle man.

cheers,

It's such a shame. Driving school for me was a free class in high school and after passing I received a percentage discount on my car insurance. There's no reason for this disparity between the have's and have not's.

That could have helped a person pass the driver's exam before photo ID's were common, but it wouldn't bypass the fee for driving lessons. I recall one county was known to have a very difficult exam and another was known to be easy so people would schedule the test in the easy county.

I think your guitars are gorgeous, although I think the orange added a little extra something in my book. It really is all about the sound & feel tho, which your guitars are fantastic. I suppose the orange Anders' will be a bit of a limited item.(?)

I dont know if MrMagenta have a car but since he lives in stockholm im shure his licens will be more expensive than mine

In my case it was a long process cause i didnt have a car to practice with.
we bought one for that. And its not good for your relation to practice your driving skills with your girlfriend i tell ya

.right now im trying to come up with an idea to save up for an Anders nerga.....sell the car?.........anyone?? .jejejejejeje

Yeah, maybe we could swap: A negra with ebony buttons for a full truck drivers licens.
(I´ve always wanted to be a trucker since I saw Convoy)

Francisco. Maybe the orange ones will be colectors items. I dont know and I dont care because they are out of my hands. But on the other hand, anything that presses my prices up is of course welcome.

Anders, I am no expert when it comes to finishing, but, wouldn't it be better to apply the French polish to the guitar instead? I can't image what it would be like walking around in French polish. All shiny and stiff.
