Hard case

What type of hard case would you guys recommend?
Wood, fibre-glass, carbon-fibre ...?

Hiscox are reasonably priced and very adequate cases.

The Hiscox cases are good, but they have one major problem. That their lockers (is that the name) are sticking up. You have to be very carefull when putting your guitar into a case like that. Especially if Frech Polished. Just one time without being concentrated and you scratch the back of the guitar.

Besides that, a good case.

The glasfiber type aka the one used by conde is very strong but also heavy. Wood cases have a nice feel but are not so strong. ETC. In the end, its all up to you.
Another thing is that finding a case which has the correct size is difficult. They are all big.

I agree Hiscox are great especially for the price but like what Anders said - watch out for the sharp locks.

I bought a few new cases made by Eastman fiberglass. I was told that it has a better design than the similar Metro case. I saw Tomatito and Cañizares using the same models for their tours except they had the smooth finish. I bought the rough finish which is much better with scratches (similar to Calton finish) It's reasonably priced at under $250 or less on eBay. There is a dealer here in Florida that sells them by the name of Omar Fernandez. Below is a pic of Tomate with his with a cool Camaron sticker.

The Hiscox is pretty bullet proof – made of polyurethane with an outside layer of ABS - useful for very extreme conditions but, as said, heavy with sharp bits to damage your guitar.

For most occasions I would prefer something much lighter. I really like the VGV polyurethane cases. The top is molded with a kind of arrow motive that adds rigidity. Alhambra are using them. See the picture at http://sologuitarist.net/alhambra_guitar_case.html

The classical guitarist John Williams often uses one. Paco de Lucia has endorsed them - but why should we care about that? They are no good for pegheads though.

I´ve used these cases a lot, but at this moment I dont have an ok supplier of them so they get to expensive.

Its an ok case, relatively strong for the weight , but I find them to be a little to big. A big size classical sleeps well in them, but a small flamenco tends to float a little bit.

Heavy? Are you kidding? The fibreglass cases are heavy, the Hiscox is very light. It also fits a small flamenco guitar very well. Somehow mine doesn't seem to have sharp bits sticking out.

Accord is another option. I've never used one but they're pretty light at 6.6 pounds. No, they don't all come in funky colors.

The offending bits on the Hiscox cases are the tops of the catches on the main body of the case. They stand about 1 cm higher than the rim of the case on mine - perhaps they have changed this? Apart from that I like my Hiscox Pro case bought in 1992 - it gives a great sense of security if you have to throw a whole pile of gear into a car. It weighs about 4 kg - they might be a bit lighter these days. Fibreglass is usually heavier - I have one that weighs in at 4.3 kg. The VGV is about 3.2 kg and if I have to take a guitar into London on the underground it makes a big difference to me.

a little work out is okay, guys. be glad you don't have to lug around marshall half stacks. anyone ever thought of doing wrist curls with their guitar case? i would imagine it'd be especially useful for the right hand.

That's one reason why I sold mine. My "gargantuan amp" days are behind me forever.
