pdl guitar bridge

can anybody tell me what kind of bridge this is? is this something new? i've never seen the strings tied this way before. it looks very neat and tidy. this is the 1a blanca from the paco de lucia line of guitars.

It's a 12-hole tie block.

You can read about it here: http://www.foroflamenco.com/tm.asp?m=90311&appid=&p=&mpage=1&key=tie%2Cblock&tmode=&smode=&s=#90562

My boyfriend did this to his guitar. It looked pretty neat! He asked me if I could tell if something was different and I couldn't tell and he eventually told me and I was like oH thats cute! It makes it look interesting with the two different knots!

the twelve hole bridge is not exactly new, its just a different way to tie knots.

there are many tie block knots you can do, some even as ornamental as looking like little flies

the premise of a twelve hole bridge is that by allowing the string to pass directly from the hole to the saddle without being yanked up by the loop, the steeper angle will cause more energy to transfer thru the bridge to the soundboard.

this is a wonderful theory. it is a theory, not fact however.

the effectiveness is debateable and mostly the changes are to the listeners perception, not the sound itself.

there is a small difference in fell however, and i think that feeling difference can encourage one to think they are producing new sounds.

it makes sense to me. even if it doesn't do what it's supposed to, it still looks really cool. if i were to get a new guitar, this would be a plus feature. not necessary but would be cool to have. upon close inspection, i see that anders likes to use these 12 hole bridges.

It does, IMO, affect how low you can take the saddle without either buzzing or dead strings due to break angle.

cheers,

Ron
