'89 Manuel Rodríguez

my friend was offered a '89 Rodríguez guitar in a small shop in Vienna for 800 euros...unfortunately there isn't much information about the guitar, but i've heard the sound via phone and despite the old strings it sounded very bright and powerful...well balanced even at higher registers...it was said to be almost totally unused during all these years...
any ideas if it could be worth investing in this guitar?

There are Manuel Rodriguez guitars and there are Manuel Rodriguez guitars.
Manuel Sr. and his sons Manuel Jr. and Norman make handcrafted guitars under their own names but they also operate a guitar factory in Esquivias (Toledo). Their individually made instruments have only their individual names on the label would be signed. Anything labeled Manuel Rodriguez y Hijos (and Sons) or any guitar with a label with a picture of Manuel Sr. and a printed signature is one of their factory models. They also operate a retail store on C/Hortaleza in Madrid.
Norman Rodriguez has his workshop in the rear of the retail store in Madrid and Manuel Sr. and Jr. work from a small shop within the factory in Esquivias.

The Jose Rodriguez guitar pictured was not made by the late Jose (Pepe) Rodriguez Alamo. It's a factory guitar with no connection whatsoever to the Rodriguez family of Cordoba.
That label, with the exception of the text of course, is a direct and blatant ripoff of the label that was designed, engraved and used by the renowned French luthier Robert Bouchet.

The guitar making Manuel Rodriguez family of Madrid is not related to the guitar making Miguel Rodriguez family of Cordoba. Rodriguez just happens to be a very common name in Spain.
