Alhambra 7FC/8FP/10FC, anyone play o...

please give me your impressions. This is the most local brand of Flamenco guitar near me. I can drive 2 hours and try these out. I have also found one of the Paco versions available in cypress.

The Alhambra cost are $1400 for the 7FC m $1400 for the 8FP, and $1970 for the 10FCR. How do those prices sound?

I can find what I feel are maybe better guitars by mail order(bone nuts and saddles)such as Montalvo, Pavan, and a few others. But those would need to be shipped, tried out, if not liked then shipped back-so you see my problem.

Are the Alhambra typically good guitars?

thanks
DKC

I own an Alhambra 7fc. It's a good guitar, but certainly not the best. I think Henrik owned one, too, but now he owns a luthier-built guitar by Anders.

The more I play my 7fc the more I like it. It's all solid tone woods--you can read about it at the Alhambrawebsite. I've rarely seen this model guitar on eBay; maybe people don't want to part with them? It's a good workhorse.

With the dollar losing so much of its value to the Euro I'm surprised prices of guitars built in Europe have not increased to the same extent. I saw a website of a company in Florida that had the 7fc for 1,000 USD. You should search the net.

Trying an instrument at a music store could give you some insight into what you might get through a mail order purchase, but there can be a lot of variation between copies of the same model. Also, check the Alhambra site for info on any other models they have as some of their more expensive guitars could be made using laminates.

I'm new to the forum and this is my first post, so be gentle with me! I've played guitar for many years but rock and blues but have loved flamenco for equally long although didn't understand anything about how to play it. However, having seen Paco Pena in London and recently been to Seville and seen what I thought were superb flamenco performances I have become inspired and have decided to try to learn how to play. Flamenco does something to me that is hard to equal in other musical forms- like blues, it's from the soul. However, I am quickly becoming aware of the depth of knowledge required and the many facets to it and I've been deeply impressed by the breadth of knowledge and talent contained on this forum. I'm trying to learn as much as I can about flamenco's history and forms and I've started with Don Pohren's 'AWay of Life'.

Which bringsus to the Alhambra 7FC. I tried a couple of guitars in Seville without really knowing much about what is good or bad although I was aware of the usually specified tone woods for flamencas. The guitar I liked was French and I didn't buy anything as I felt it should be Spanish made. Back in London I found a specialist flamenco shop with a good selection of guitars and tried some in the £300 price bracket but they didn't seem to have 'the sound'. I then was given an Alhambra 7FC which was more expensive at £700 but it looked great and sounded right with more of a rasp. Tried a £1000 guitar but couldn't hear £300 of differerence. The assistant then gave me another and said not to look at the name. It was ok but I still preferred the 7FC. Surprise- the mystery guitar was another 7FC! So it goes to show that no two are the same. As a beginner to flamenco I think it is the right instrument for me as it has the sound, is nice and loud but expressive and looks lovely. So I'm really happy with it. I have Gibson Les Pauls, a Flying V, Stratocaster so I think I can appreciate a good instrument. The 7FC is not perfection and would obviously be eclipsed by any of the top luthiers, but I think it is a very good instrument for the money. I'll try to be more brief next time!
