Replacing Soundboard, Worth it or no... 
The guitar in question is mY MIguel Rodriguez, originally posted here, http://www.foroflamenco.com/tm.asp?m=85415&p=1&tmode=1&smode=1. Since then the soundboard has cracked properly which is aggitating the hell out of me. The crack is about 1 .5 " inches and runs below the bridge of the guitar. Any advice as to what i can do, or whether repair is pointless etc. I was recommended going to see Pablo Requena in Lewes, and i am seeing him on saturday with the intentio of getting it fixed. I believe my guitar is spruce and have been reading up about certain variations of spruce, harder wearing, and found Port Orford as an ideal solution? As i am new to all this jazz i have no knowledge to guide me on, except for my instinct to protect the guitar.

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks

Soundboards are almost never replaced on guitars; furthermore if your guitar is indeed a Miguel Rodriguez you would destroy the value since it would no longer be original.

Port Orford cedar (it's actually a cypress) is not spruce tree. It's normally used as a substitute for Spanish Cypress on the back and sides although the cost is now comparable cypress so it would be pointless to use it.

Take it to a reputable luthier and have the crack stabilized. It's really not a big deal.

I havent seen the crack, so I cant say to much, but dont worry and dont change the soundboard. It will completely change the soul of the guitar.

Loosen the strings now and go see Pablo, he will know. Cracks can be perfectly well repaired. You can always see the repair, but it doesnt have to affect sound and playability and if well done, it doesnt have to affect price to much. I tried a Reyes with a big crack repair and the guitar was sold for 8000,- euros. Old violins normally have various big cracks.

Also ask Pablo about how to prevent it happen again. Did you have a lot of climate changes lately

Sounds like a fairly minor crack.
When you see Pablo, please tell him I was asking for him.

I have a '69 Ramirez blanca that developed a long crack [15 cm] on the treble side of the sound board out beyond the end of the bridge. I had it repaired and had a new clear golpeador installed. The golpeador covers the crack which can still be seen. No big deal. The guitar is now solid and sounds as beautiful as it did before the crack.

Pay close attention to what Anders had to say!
