Japanese Guitarists

Jin Oki is a very talented flamenco guitarist from Tokyo. I think he placed fourth in the Cordoba Guitar Competition in 2005 (?). If you'd like to check out a video, here's a link from YouTube.

I have a CD by a Japanese called Taketo which I bought in Andalucia. I think he lived in Sevilla, his sister may be a dancer of flamenco as well. Just by listening to the music, it's impossible to tell he is a non-Spaniard.

The guitar is a Devoe Negra. Good player.

Ted, I totally covet his guitar! His sound is so amazing! If I get on Lester's waiting list now, maybe my guitar will arrive in 10-15 years - and by that time, I may be finally ready to do it justice!

Could it be Jose Takeda? He lived in Sevilla and has been working in Southern California for the past 15 years or so. He has a web site, and is a very powerful player. He's also got some You Tube technique videos that are really useful. Cheers!

No, I don't think it's the same person. Here is a picture of Taketo. Taketo was born in Hyogo, Japan and has been living in Sevilla since 1980. I copied the introduction of the Cd as below:

Nacido en 1954 en Hyogo, Japon, vive desde 1980 en Sevilla, donde empezo a tocar la guitarra en la Academia de Manolo Marin. Ha sido guitarrista de la antigua y conocidisima "La Trocha". Despues de numerosas giras por toda Espana y de como el dice, "muchas juergas" fue guitarrista de RNE en el programa "El Silverio". En la actualidid realiza frecuentes giras por su pais de origen y este es su primer trabajo discografico.

Are there any samples? I would be happy to listen to his playing. I guess he plays traditional style. The name "aire puro" is courageous. But ok. Interesting anyway.

You're right - Taketo is a bit younger, I think.

I don't know if Jin Oki has some samples or not. He's done 3 CDs so far, including a collaboration with a great Japanese cantaor. Maybe if you check his web site you can find some riffs!

How about a Tango? Please go to Audio/Video upload for sample.

I believe your thinking of Jose Tanaka.

This was certainly among the best I've ever listened to. I ripped the mp3 from YouTube and it's been on my loop since last night. Great stuff. Massive bass, by the way -- I'm positive that it can't be all due to the guitar. Surely the sound projection was tweaked.
