i feel so upset and annoyed if i met someone and i talked to him about flamenco and he dont understand it,
i try first to correct what flamenco actully is comparing to what flamenco he thinks is, as most of people thing flamenco is salsa, tango, or latin music,
that is one point, the other one when i try to explain how much i love flamenco, how much i admire it and love it, and why, and how dose the flamenco take over all my life, and at the end the dont understand and they call me CRAZY!!!!
there is not a singel girl i met and she ask me about flamenco , and at the end i end up a crazy guy
the only people that understand my feelings is ther people who already have love or just started to get that spirit and blood rush when they hear flamenco,
will dont forget u guys here at the foro, u r the best,
ahhh , flamenco is in blood this is the way i feel it, i very happy cause my spanish friends called me El Gitano - Aguilucho, i love it, ifeel so owner,
i feel so happy when i hear my friend, that he wake at the morning wash his face and grab his guitar and start practing and nothing stop him untill he cut a string or broke a nail, its so over welming espically where i was his first teacher,
i used to that before practing untill i feel sleep in my bed with the guitar, but unortunatlly i was heading a wrong direction with out detailed flamenco lessons, well that time were i used to think that Armik is flamenco
would to meet some one in person who agree wiht me,
i am not sure when i am going to mee that persons who will say , yes haitham u r right, this is flamenco, this is the love of flamenco, and agree with me about that beautiful love to the most beautiful music at the world,
i mean spanish person, andaluz, gitano or paio, some one from the source, hehehe , telling me . ole haitham ,ole aguilucho,
i dont know if u do understand me, i feel like left alone, and i dont have a backup, and i am so upset from trying to explain to the others the beauty of flamenco and they dont give a dam
THIS WHY I NEED TO GO ON TRIP TO SPAIN TO AL ANDALUZ

Haitham, I understand how you feel, because I have similar experience, especially with your second point. There is nobody in my surroundings who feels exactly the same for flamenco as I do and I have the feeling they think I'm a bit crazy. I also feel very alone in this I know they just understand it till some extend (or not at all) and therefore I try not to talk too often about it..... and that's not always easy.
But as much as I love flamenco, I can understand them too. Imagine someone who is a really big fan of hardcore music (or some other music you don't like so much). Would you be able to totally understand his/her feeling for that music?
So my advice would be (you don't have to take it ofcourse ) : just play some beautiful flamenco music for them now and then, and they will feel it or they just don't. Don't try so hard, it's only bothering you! Though it remains difficult that people don't understand it, maybe it will give you some piece of heart.

Shame on you Flo! You sleep with women just because they're attractive, even though they don't understand the most important thing in your life?
Years ago I met this guy and he was gorgeous, and funny, caring and nice, and he had a sports car and a really nice apartment. But unfortunately he was really right wing, and I just couldn't make myself see him again!!

Seriously Haitham I really understand. It's one of the reasons I got involved in organising the guitar course for the Pena, so I could meet other people who love flamenco too. I can't explain why it's so addictive, but it just draws me in, and draws me to people who feel the same.
No-one in my family or immediate circle of friends feels the same. I'm just living up to my stereotype of tia loca, crazy aunt who's interested in wierd music and culture!
We've said it before, but thank you Simon and Ron and everyone else who makes the Foro work.

Indeed thank god for the foro, I quote things from it to people who don't understand flamenco to sound smart and it works, because nobody understands it
And that's exactly it, your knowledge is valuable! If you wanted to play rock guitar think of all the competition you'd have! It's a great and rare thing you can do, and there are people all over the world who appreciate seeing a performance, even if they don't fully understand what they're seeing - be happy for it!

To the topic:
Yes I agree. In my lab they all bring their mp3s to hear in the lab. They bring normal chart-music, Pop, techno, heavy metal and the crazyest crap-music which is still mianstream. Its stupid that everybody can tolerate the darkest heavey metal with shouting animals while shredding the worst riffs and a drummer who almost drum the middle drum with his head coz hes allways the crazyest one.... So nobody ays anything aout that if its running .. Than I put in some ojos de brujo coz I thought its mainly pop and its maybe most close to theyr music. And so what? They do stupid comments and the most funny thing is. They have the desire for telling me in the end that is wasnt so shocking great.. But I never asked for their opinion... Damn idiots! Just coz they usually dont hear a flamenco-guitar and here and there an AY.... they get crazy..
Well Im out anywhere.. coz I never understood why all the people like good lyrics. WHY? Lyrics doesnt interest me at all. Musicians shoud make MUSIC and no poems or political statements. Poets and writing authors are appropriate to make POEMS and good TEXTS. Politicians should concentrate on POLITICS. Im not interested in amateur-poems of some people in pop music who are most of the day on drugs and imagine in the drug-flash that they are elected to tell so. about the birds and the bees...

Haitham , i also have a nice solution for you:
f..ck them.
Just talk to people who understand what you are talking about. For the girls, play some Rumba stuff and you well get them (but do not try to explain flamenco, simply dont talk lol).

Arash you are a bad boy!
Trouble is when you want to share your interests with someone you like and they just can't understand. That puts a limitation on your friendship which is frustrating. I find most 'pop' music trivial or tedious, but it's what interests a lot of people I know . When that topic comes up I go unusually quiet.....

Haven t been around for awhile but my mum has made peace with Flo and I have just had a lesson in Madrid with Ricardo (not the Ricardo) in a part of Madrid muy castizo, Third floor, no lift, steps of warn wood, small dark room, dance floor 1 metre square, room 9 sq meters and a sevillano who oozes flamenco but teachers some different techniques. but could link every technique straight into my Solea and sevillanas. It was very special and 20 Euros for 1 hour 20 minutes. You can´t get sex that good, even Flo, and you can t help but love flamenco. I ve practised solid for 3 hours since and the fingers are falling off Who cares if your friends don t understand Viva el arte

I don't care what people think, and I guess you know that if you know me well, and it doesn't matter where you go in the world, it only matters what you do with your psyche. We are only responsible for ourselves, it's that independance that makes for fine art. Just try to get along. Everybody feels different about something, and that is a matter for self preservation and simply put, just growing up inside, because you can't change the people around you or at least you're not likely to. Besides, we are not here to sell what we do, we are here to just do it, and that's the simplicity that keeps it going for as long as we live. Give it time and you will find your way. Be accepting of others no matter what they think. Seek wisdom and not spite or ignorance. Peace of mind will soon follow.
