Lifting fingernail??
Has anyone experienced this? My ring-finger, the hardest point for golpe, is lifting from the bed!! I went online, and I read that people get this from as little as tapping a keyboard with their fingernails (obvioulsy, women with long nails...), but given how hard we can strike a guitar in accompaniment..... I never had this until about 3 months ago. Originally, there was no pain; it simply started lifting back by the bed. I thought I had struck it too hard (tools) and as it grew, the separation damage had to grow out, but now, it's started AGAIN, at the edge, and now feels like a hangnail; red. swollen, tender... I am going to glue a silkwrap layer on, but other than that, and suggestions???

Ramon, You may want to give serious consideration to seeking some medical advice from your family doctor and/or a dermatologist. The lifting of you nail may be strictly from the trauma of intense and forceful golpes. If that is the case, then consider changing you golpe technique as HMan suggested. The redness and swelling suggest the possibility of a secondary bacterial infection and may require a topical antibiotic or oral antibiotics. The primary cause of the nail lifting, in addition to trauma, may be a fungal infection - this is a treatable condition, so I repeat, get some good medical management for your problem. In the meantime, it is very important to rest the area ... i.e., no golpes! Good luck in finding a solution for your problem. Doog

At first, the nail lifted at the base, but then grew out. It's almost gone, now, but then it started again at the side. Now it's like a hangnail-feeling. So I wrapped it with antibiotic ointment, and cleaned the side good. Better now. I also put silkwrap on top to better protect. I have that 'super glue' for closing wounds, too, so I'll try that, and I live close to the Mexican border, so I always have meds and antibiotics without having to pay $100 for a doctor to write what I know I need - and pay 5 times the price in the US! And I talked to a doctor friend. He said; "No guitar for 3 months is the REAL way to heal it..." (Yaright....) "But if you HAVE to play, cover the nail like you did, and try to go easier" So I'm going to cut a rubber bumper for my nail tip! Thanks for the help, everyone.... It's actually already improving a lot :-)
