Chaps, A remark by Jon Boyes on another page got me thinking. Have any of you Uk foro puppies ever met? Would there be any interest out there in arranging such a thing? Or do you all meet regularly anyway, and just haven't told me because I am rubbish on guitar? Iknow several great players in the Hull/Lincoln area who would join in, a lot of people I know are not even as computer literate as me!!! All thoughts gratefully received. flamenco, the true path! el ted
Many of us have - in London, Granada and Jerez. Like myself, Fergus, Emma, Sean, Jonathan, Kate, Melchor, Estela, Colin, Wafa, Helen etc. etc. I believe a couple have hooked up in the States as well.
Been thinking the same thing recently and here's an idea.
I went down to the Lewes Guitar Festival the summer before last, to meet Stephen Hill and take in the Jeronimo concert which was being staged as part of the Lewes Guitar Festival. It was great and a nice place to be. Also,
I was down again two weeks ago to collect my new guitar from SH and I asked him what he thought about having a Foro (and every one else) get together to coincide with the Festival? Stephen thought it was a good idea and might be that a big name could be got over to take a workshop depending on numbers attending. Now, if I can get there from Glasgow, then it shoulden't be too much bother for most others, well having said that, RonM is further away than me in Stonehaven, but I'd help out if he's up for it and could get to me.
Stephen thought there'd be no problems with venue and accommodation. So, what do you all think?
I would love to, and I would make very effort to attend. The cost wouldn't be so much the issue (tax deductable ) for me as the time - new born baby and all that. I would really like to though, great idea.
morning chaps. wa - hay! I'm up for it. is Lewes on the bloody isle of wight? nobody get anything say in the centre of england so people aren't travelling for days to meet up? think on chaps!
Such things have been suggested. I don't know if the Lewes Guitar festival is happening this year. It didn't make it off the ground with funding last year and the key organiser now has a full time job (steven's brother Laurence). Alternatively a friend of mine, Ulises the singer, is trying to organise such a meet between north and south aficionardos but in somewhere mid of the country the proposed venue at present is Matlock in Derbyshire. Now this place does have a pen~a( as opposed to Lewes where the pen~a died for a number of reasons 1 loss of venue 2 lack of interest!). There are already a few people on board and there is an idea to do like a weekend festival with workshops and performance and fiesta. So all it really needs is someone to organise it and a big enough venue and accomodation to accomodate us all. I'll have to keep you posted as it developes. But what I'd really like to know if such a thing did happen how many of you guys and galls would be UP FOR IT!!!!!
fergusito, with enough notice I could guarantee six or so people from my part of the world. I had forgotten about The Matlock pena. anyone else? jim? Jon?
Well Derbyshire is bloody miles away for me, but I understand the need to accomodate everyone, particularly our Scots frieds who would have a nightmare journey to Lewes.
Like I said, I am keen on the idea. Apart from my house-husband duties, my main problem would be avoiding clashes with weekend gigs, especially weddings, which are all at weekends.
The whole workshop/fiesta idea is great. I used to subscribe to a UK guitar newsgroup that has annual meet ups along the same lines, and they are great fun.
RE: Uk Foro meeting/booze up (in reply to Fergusito)
Fergusito, It just seemed a good idea to tag onto something of substance and maybe get the benefit of a workshop if the festival was on and was bringing over a big name. I'd like to meet up with Foro. Sure, Ulises is a nice guy. Mike Holmes lives just outside Derby and I'm sure Mike would be willing to help organise any event. Matlock or Lewes, I don't mind and I'll be there. Cheers Jim.
Mike Holmes!!!! I know that name! He is teaching flamenco guitar to a friend of mine in stokesley. small world eh what? I'm with you jim, any location will do.
Mike's my big pal and a great guy. He used to run the Newcastle Pen~a and organised several summer residential workshops down (that's down from where I am!) at Riddley Hall, Hexham.
Mike's on 24/7 flamenco guitar and I know he'd get something organised for us if we wanted.
I guess next step would be to get a list of all who want to come along and agree a date and preferred location, preferablly a longish weekend. Once we know, I'll ask Mike. Cheers Jim.
PUT ME DOWN JIM and a few others, commitments willing. if you speak to mike give him Robin Kaye's regards. I have just got back from the studio where robin is recording a solo CD. Come on the rest of you uglies, get signed up!

I received an email from Duendelenguas, a Spanish company which provides a combined holiday/flamenco lessons in Andalucia and provides affordable accommodation. In their Newsletter they mentioned this link.
To be honest estimados amigos, I'd love to have a drink with you all and all that, but the logistics of travelling from Aberdeen to anywhere in the UK is such a pain, that going to Jerez would actually not be any more difficult (and would be much more jolly! ) I've got that on the back burner at the moment. London is easier to get to than anyplace outside Scotland from where I am, and might be for you too, so that's why I mentioned this place. (Ramon Ruiz goes there!) But don't let me sway your views. It's unlikely I'll make any UK venue for much the same reasons as Jon. (work/commitments etc) A lot of you are either young, single or both and it's no sweat to hop off for a long weekend but that's not so easy for some of us old, married blokes! Anyway, I'm really perfectly happy talking with you guys on the Forum and hearing your audio uploads etc.....Honestly!
Can't sign up unless I have a date, for the reasons Ron gives. Summer is my busiest time, I'm playing loads of wedding gigs and they are all weekends. Autumn would be better for me, but even if I am free, it will involve some VERY delicate negotiations with wifey as Baby Boyes is not even two months old yet...

Hi Ron, I worked for them as a Spanish teacher and taking the students to their accommodation. Let me doubt they offer cheap accommodation and the service provided is much less what you can expect. If you ever decide to go to Jerez on holidays or to take flamenco lessons let me know. It all could be done for half the price.

Hi Melchor, Absolutely! What I meant to say was Duendelenguas is a company that advertises combined holidays and flamenco lessons with affordable accommodation. It doesn't sound my cup of tea though. I'd much rather be in Jerez with you and the gang anytime.
