Its just a wooden box isn't it?
With a snare contraption behind the front piece. Front is a different thickness, or material, than the sides. Kate suggests I buy one in Cordoba, which is an excellent idea.

i bought one from E mundo flamenco a couple of years back, but the lads are right it is much better to build your own. One tip - put a hinge on the back then you can get inside and change the snares etc. on the inside front face of mine at the moment i have taped copper rods and a spring snare. In the past i have had bells, coke cans, bottle tops and allsorts stuck in it for different sound effects. Hours of endless fun!

ps: FIT RUBBER FEET TO IT because you can find yourself edging backwards as you hammer away. Another tip- mine has a circular hole in the back so you can stick a microphone inside and run it through a PA. tip no63 - I sometimes play mine wearing metal thimbles on my fingers tips for a snappier sound. You may have guessed that i like cajons

The problem with jaleo apart from not being Spanish ("oh-lay!") is multi-tasking. As an exercise, John Flanigan likes to get you to clap contratiempo while talking about what you got up to last weekend. Only when I do it the words come out on 12 3 6 8 10 and it takes forever.
